Caritas Food Security Officer Job in Kenya


Food Security Officer 

 

Overall Job Purpose

The Food Security Officer is responsible for the implementation and management of all Caritas Kenya food security programmes, coordinating policy and ensuring best practice and a commitment of Caritas Internationalis’ principles and values.

Reporting to: Caritas Kenya Director

Specific objectives:

  • Assess the impact of particular threats or shocks on food security of urban and rural communities this should include:• Food Availability• Access to food
  • Identify appropriate interventions in terms of food aid and other food security interventions.
  • Where necessary include the implementation of programmes and setting up monitoring systems for the programmes.
  • Identify other agencies already responding in the field of food aid and food security, and whether there are any gaps either in terms of coverage or types of interventions needed.
  • Assess the capacity of Caritas/partners to intervene if there are any gaps.
  • Produce or contribute to reports as needed
  • To represent Caritas in sectoral meetings on food security

Profile

  • A BSc/MSc or equivalent in Nutrition, agriculture or agricultural economics, agronomy or related degree.
  • Emergency Experience essential, development background preferable /ideally with an NGO.
  • Nutrition Survey/Feeding centre/CTC experience.
  • Proven application of relevant competencies at field level (preferably in an Emergency context).
  • Understanding of development/relief issues.
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity.
  • Assessment, analytical and planning skills.
  • Good oral and written reporting skills.
  • Diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.
  • Training/counterpart development skills.
  • Personnel management skills.
  • Flexible/motivated team player
  • Valid driving licence,
  • Commitment to the Red Cross/NGO Code of Conduct; Sphere Minimum Standards, People in Aid Code and other humanitarian codes and principles
