Job Title: Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Program Coordinator
 
Reports To: WASH Program Manager

Job location: Marsabit office with frequent visit to field sites
 
Introduction
 
Food for the Hungry International, a Christian relief and development agency, is looking for a WASH Program Coordinator to support its WASH programming. 

FH Kenya works towards the sustainable provision of safe water & sanitation and hygiene promotion by targeting the vulnerable communities in Kenya. 

Currently, FH Kenya is operational in Marsabit, Moyale, Isiolo, Meru, Nairobi and Kakuma.
 
Job profile
 
The WASH Coordinator reports directly to the WASH Manager and will systematically support the WASH program by developing and providing technical input to quality implementation of WASH interventions. 

The position is required to have good relations with staff and other stakeholders and must have an excellent understanding of WASH needs in the Country. 

He/She will develop community-oriented training modules, technical designs for water harvesting structures; development and implementation of community action plans. 

He/she will ensure that high quality and technically viable water, sanitation and hygiene services are provided under FH Kenya support.
 
Specific Duties
  • Provide technical support and supervision including concept formulation, technical design and monitoring & evaluation of WASH projects
  • Under the leadership of the WASH Manager, provide technical guidance to FH Kenya technical staff and partners on WASH interventions as well as assist staff working under him/her in creating linkages and enhancing synergies with other FH programs
  • Conduct needs assessments, technical feasibility studies, prepare detailed engineering designs, BOQs, and assess & identify areas of expansion
  • Together with other project staff conduct/facilitate trainings hygiene promotion, community reflection meetings and stakeholders meetings
  • Organize and conduct WASH trainings and capacity building of staff under him/her and community members
  • Assist in establishing effective monitoring, information and reporting systems, development of communication materials and strategies
  • Develop proposals, work plans, budgets and compile program reports and represent FH Kenya at various WASH forums
Desired Qualifications and skills
  • Holder of BSc Civil Engineering or Water and Environmental Engineering or Public Health or equivalent from a reputable institution with minimum of five years working experience and practical knowledge in design of community based WASH programs in an NGO setting
  • Experience in concept formulation and excellent report writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills with hands on planning and design software
  • Committed to serve the poor in relation to FH/Kenya’s Christian foundation and beliefs
