Health Poverty Action works with some of the poorest and most marginalised communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America, often in very difficult environments. We work to enable these communities achieve improvements to their health, promoting this as one of their fundamental human rights.
In May 2011 HPA received an award of a grant contract with the European Union to implement a cross-border MCH project covering Mandera County in Kenya and Dolo Ado District in Ethiopia.

The
four-year project is entitled REalising maternal And Child Health rights in
difficult environments (REACH) and will be implemented in close partnership
with local NGO partners, most notably the Emergency Pastoralist Assistance
Group (EPAG) in Kenya and the Pastoralist Concern (PC) in Ethiopia and the
Ministry of Health on both sides of the border.
The overall objective of the project is: “Improved health outcomes for pastoralist mothers and children in Ethiopia and Kenya towards the achievement of MCH related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”
The aim of the proposed exercise will be to provide training and support to the local partners to increase their overall capacity to deliver MCH services to marginalized communities in line with donor requirements as well as enable the partners expand and sustain their operations and ensure that their knowledge and lessons from working in these pastoralist communities can be fed into national level advocacy.
