Safaricom HOD M-PESA Operations & Product Development Job in Kenya


We are pleased to announce the following vacancy within Financial Services Strategic Business Unit. 

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Reporting to the General Manager-Financial Services; the job holder will manage the M-PESA Product, including roll out, on going performance and enhancement of the product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the development roadmap in the country including local & VF requirements working with VF & SC technical and commercial teams;
  • Manage the development and documentation of Business case for new/enhancement to products and services for presentation;
  • Define product requirements for customization to meet specific customer needs and liaise with the technical team to ensure successful implementation;
  • Manage the testing of new/enhanced functionality, tariffs and business rules prior to implementation;
  • Development of new processes and framework development for the M-PESA Channels;
  • Ensure both Kenyan and international marketing activities are well coordinated;
  • Project Manage the delivery of new functionality and system enhancements to the market, including requirement specifications, testing, documentation of processes & procedures;
  • Identify & implement local changes for process improvement, in liaison with internal stakeholders from technical and other departments;
  • Deliver revenue fro M-PESA products portfolio for both consumer and business;
  • Set Revenue targets for both consumer for each company outlet in terms of consumer recruitment and financial transactions;
  • Manage the training programs for M-PESA agents and clients on M-PESA products and services;
  • Act as the liaison for other M-PESA operators wishing to learn in general or in detail about the practical operation of M-PESA in the Country;
  • Responsible for the management of team budgets and ensuring all M-PESA operations are within the approved budgets;
  • Manage the liaison between the core M-PESA talent in Vodafone and the local team on commercial and technical Operations;
  • Delivery & reporting of all KPI’s to Safaricom & Vodafone;
  • Effectively manage staff and resources through effective monitoring of their performance.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in a Technical field – Telecommunications, engineering or Information Technology;
  • Project Management Certified – PMP / PMI or equivalent;
  • Ten (10) years post-graduation work experience of which 3 years must be in a senior management role;
  • Work experience on multiple projects simultaneously; from start to finish; 6-12 month duration, which have an impact across the company,  impact on customers and impact on revenue generation capability of the organization;
  • Good understanding of financial principles, understands financial ratios, can interpret standard financial statements;
  • Good understanding of the Kenyan market, subscriber preferences and subscriber trends;
  • Attention to detail with good organizational, planning, report writing and presentation skills;
  • Proactive, confident, energetic with the ability to work under pressure, to tight schedules/deadlines and monitor and follow up on all actions taken;
  • A highly motivated person with a positive attitude towards work, innovative, creative, results oriented with excellent analytical skills.
