Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the above Temporary position in the Dadaab, UNICEF Kenya Office.

Purpose of the post:
 
Under the supervision of  Chief of Field Office, Dadaab and guidance of the Child Protection Specialist, Nairobi, the incumbent will support coordination between relevant actors, facilitate strong programming to prevent child rights violations and GBV in Daadab and effectively mainstream protection issues through inter-sectoral programming.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The staff will be responsible for UNICEF supported activities in the following manner:
  1. Designs, prepares, implements, monitors and evaluates assigned child protection and GBV programmes or specific project(s) in the protection sector.  Analyzes and evaluates data to ensure achievement of objectives and/or takes corrective action when necessary to meet programme/project objectives.
  2. Contributes to the development and/or introduction and documentation of new approaches, methods and practices in project management and evaluation.
  3. Contributes to the preparation of the protection sectoral documents for the Country Programme Document (CPR) and Work plans and other programme documents.
  4. Participates in intersectoral collaboration with other programme colleagues with special focus on education as per ECD
  5. Assists in development of appropriate communication and information strategy to support and/or advocate programme development.
  6. Undertakes field visits to monitor programmes and projects, as well as conducts periodic programme reviews with government counterparts and other partners.
  7. Proposes and/or undertakes action on operational procedures affecting project management and implementation.
  8. Provides technical advice and assistance to government officials, other partners and colleagues in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programme/project(s).
  9. Coordinates with the Operations/Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and government accountability. 9Certifies disbursements of funds, monitors and submits financial status reports to Chief of Child Protection10 Prepares child protection programme/project status reports required for management, budget review, programme analysis, internal bi-weekly sit reps and annual reports, etc. and contributes to the preparation of country reports.
Desired  Qualifications and experience
  • Advanced University degree in Social Sciences (preferably psychology and social work) , Law, or related technical field specifically pertaining to protection issues affecting children and women.
  • 5 years of emergency experience, preferably with exposure to both UNICEF and UNHCR protection and child protection and GBV
  • Refugee camp experience highly desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of programming for GBV prevention and response and other child protection interventions.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; Experience working in region and speaking Somali are assets.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, managerial and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, develop, plan and manage programmes as well as transfer knowledge skills.
  • High analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills as well as adequate computer operation skills.
  • Willing to live and work in difficult conditions and travel extensively at the field level.
  • Good inter-personal and working will people skills are an assets.
