In May 2011 HPA received an award of a grant contract with the European Union to implement a cross-border MCH project covering Mandera County in Kenya and Dolo Ado District in Ethiopia.

In May 2011 HPA received an award of a grant contract with the European Union to implement a cross-border MCH project covering Mandera County in Kenya and Dolo Ado District in Ethiopia.
The
four-year project is entitled REalising maternal And Child Health rights in
difficult environments (REACH) and will be implemented in close partnership
with local NGO partners, most notably the Emergency Pastoralist Assistance
Group (EPAG) in Kenya and the Pastoralist Concern (PC) in Ethiopia and the
Ministry of Health on both sides of the border.
The overall objective of the project is: “Improved health outcomes for pastoralist mothers and children in Ethiopia and Kenya towards the achievement of MCH related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”
The aim of the proposed exercise will be to develop culturally relevant pictorial IE/BCC materials featuring images of Somali Pastoralists to educate the public and support advocacy.

Content/messages
will focus on project targeted key maternal and child health (MCH) issues, that
is, immunization, maternal health emergencies; harmful traditional practices (HTPs),
HIV/AIDS and other STIs. In addition, the IE/BCC materials will also have
contents that promote MCH services (increasing demand) and support advocacy
with policy makers and local opinion leaders.
The
exercise will be conducted in both Ethiopia and Kenya.
