October 2011, the 6th Action Against Hunger (ACF) was founded by a group of prominent French figures in response to the emergency caused by Afghan refugees fleeing to Pakistan to escape fighting in 1979, with the aim of eradicating hunger in a more global, lasting and effective way worldwide. ACF's mission consists of saving lives via the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and following disasters and conflicts. The organisation focuses its activities on an integrated approach, taking various aspects into account: "Nutrition, health and healthcare practices", "Food security and livelihoods", "Water, sanitation and hygiene" and "Advocacy and awareness-raising" In 2009, ACF-International was active in over 40 countries, coming to the aid of around 5 million individuals. By integrating our programmes with regional and national systems, ACF is ensuring that short-term actions are becoming long-term solutions.

We are looking for: A REGIONAL COMMUNICATION OFFICER

Country: mainly based in Nairobi, KENYA but with visits to the whole region

Length of Contract: 4 months, starting asap

Responsibilities:
Coordination - To be the focal point for all communication issues related to the Horn of Africa for the missions in the area and for ACF network, in coordination with ACF France. - To be the focal point for the organizations of press trip with media in the region - Liaise and share information with international media correspondents and local media if needed. - To be the spokesperson for media when needed and in accordance with heads of mission - Improve the sharing of information between missions and UN system of information

Production of the following outputs - Continue to collect information and data from all the missions of the Horn of Africa in order to compile a monthly communication document to share at all levels (internal, media, clusters…) - Work closely with all the missions, pool desk and communication service to define ACF line of communication - Define with the 4 missions of the Horn of Africa a local communication strategy: support and/or recruit local communication officer if relevant and implement local communication activities and tools. - Write, produce and release press statements about ACF activities, fields of intervention or humanitarian issues - Produce a press dossier on Disaster Risk Management focused on the Horn of Africa - Collect photos, videos, testimonies from the 4 missions - Organize a real video documentary on ACF's work - Work closely with ACF community manager to release information on social network

Qualification and previous experience: Post-graduate studies in communication with at least one confirmed professional experience in communication, ideally on the field and at a similar position. Able to work autonomously. Skilled in researching, collecting and synthesizing information. Experience in graphic production (photos, videos). Fluency in English (working language) and French is requested. A good command of Spanish would be a plus.
Status: Employee Ø Fixed-term contract, provided by ACF according to the French labour law. Ø Total average yearly gross income: from 41160 € to 47160 €
  • Food and housing: 1000 € / month average
  • Per Diem : 210 € / month average
  • Support to the R & R costs : 110 € / month average
  • Transportation costs to and from the mission : 460 € / month average
  • Monthly gross salary ranging from 1650 € to 2150 € (Net: from 1518 € to 1978 €) depending on relevant experience (possibility to increase up to 2750 € gross (2530 € net) according to seniority and performances) Ø 25 days of annual paid leaves Ø 20 days of R & R per year (taken as recovery time breaks of one week every 2 or 4 months depending on the mission) Ø Social benefits: Medical, life and accident insurance provided by the institution Ø Accompanied position (partner, children) according to the place of assignment Ø Training before departure and all along the career with Action Contre la Faim.
