Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) Jobs


The Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) is a national indigenous Non-governmental organization(NGO) that accompanies communities in rediscovering their indigenous knowledge and using it to promote sustainable environmental management and livelihoods. 

It was started in 2006 and  it is currently working with communities and schools in five  counties namely; Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Meru and Tharaka.

ICE wishes to announce the availability of the following vacancy

 Project officer,  Food Security and Livelihoods
(FSL)

Work station: Thika

A. Reporting to the Director, the FSL officer will carry out the following responsibilities;

1. Overall Responsibility

In charge of Food Security and Livelihoods

2. Specific Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate implementation of Food Security and Livelihoods projects
  • Co-ordinate ICE Field Staff /Community Mobilizers and Volunteers during implementation of ICE livelihoods projects
  • Conducting monitoring and evaluation of food security and livelihoods projects and submit progress and evaluation reports,
  • Advise ICE on ways in which the the livelihoods programme can be improved or expanded
  • Will participate in preparation of donor reports
  • Participate in fundraising/resource mobilization
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned
B. Expected Outputs / Results
  • Successful implementation of food security and livelihoods projects
  • Proper co-ordination of ICE activities in the field
  • A stable, increased and sustainable resource-base at ICE to run food security and livelihoods
  • Well organized reporting and increasing number of documents produced by ICE through the efforts of job holder
  • Good image of ICE among its partners, nationally and internationally due to the quality of reports and documents produced
  • Improved net-working of ICE and collaboration with like-minded organizations in Kenya and beyond.
C. Qualifications
  • First Degree in an Agriculture  related course prefarably BSc (Agriculture), Agriculture Education &Extension,  Postgraduate qualifications in the same field will be added advantage
  • At least two year’s experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge/experience in project management and gender issues
  • Experience in fundraisng from donors especially writing funding proposals and writing donor reports
  • Experience in food security/livelihoods projects with rural communities
  • Knowledge on issues of climate change and local community adaptation mechanisms
D. Terms
  • First 3 months probation
  • One year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance
