and test improved means for predicting, detecting, preventing and treating
infectious diseases.

Human Resources Officer

Responsibilities
- Maintains
the medical scheme records and generates a monthly statement on the status
of all medical accounts in liaison with the scheme providers
- Ensures
timely communication to and from service providers
- Assists
in the recruitment process
- Assists
in the induction programme for new employees
- Liaises
with relevant government bodies to obtain work permits for non- resident
employees
- He/she
will be expected to avail correct interpretation of personnel policies and
assist the organization to ensure that Kenya labour laws are adhered to in
the organization.
Minimum
Qualification
- Higher
Diploma in Human Resources Management (or equivalent) from a recognized
institution.
- Good
knowledge of the Kenya employment legislation.
- Minimum
of 2 to 3 years relevant working experience in a busy HR department
preferably in an NON governmental organization.
- Bachelors'
degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

- Proficient
in MS Office.

- Excellent
communication skills in both English and Kiswahili

Assistant Medical Maintenance Officer

Essential Functions:
- Under
the supervision, guidance and approval of the Medical Maintenance Officer,
the Assistant Medical Maintenance Officer will maintain all laboratory and
clinical equipment to meet national and international standards, including
repairs, installation, calibration and routine maintenance needs.
- The
Assistant Medical Maintenance officer will report directly to the Medical
Maintenance Officer.
Key
Responsibilities
All functions below will be conducted under the guidance and supervision of the Medical Maintenance Officer.
- Under
the Supervision of the Medical Maintenance Officer, inspect and test
malfunctioning medical and related equipment following manufacturers'
specifications.
- Examine
medical equipment and facility's structural environment and check for
proper use of equipment, to protect staff from electrical or mechanical
hazards.
- Ensure
compliance with safety regulations.
- Under
the Supervision and approval of the Medical Maintenance Officer,
disassemble malfunctioning equipment and remove, repair and replace
defective parts
- Keep
records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment.
- Under
the Supervision and approval of the Medical Maintenance Officer, perform
preventive maintenance or service such as cleaning, lubricating and
adjusting equipment.
- Under
the Supervision and approval of the Medical Maintenance Officer, test and
calibrate components and equipment following manufacturers' manuals and
troubleshooting techniques, using hand tools, power tools and measuring
devices. Explain and demonstrate correct operation and preventive
maintenance of medical equipment to personnel.
- Study
technical manuals and when available, attend training sessions provided by
WRAIR or manufacturers to upgrade current knowledge
- Plan
and carry out work assignments, using blueprints, schematic drawings,
technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and liquid and air flow sheets, while
following prescribed regulations, directives, and other instructions as
required.
- Test,
evaluate, and classify excess or in-use medical equipment and determine
serviceability, condition, and disposition in accordance with regulations.
- Calibrate
equipment to meet manufacturer's design specifications.
- Compute
power and space requirements for installing medical equipment and install
units to manufacturer's specifications.
- Work
closely with the medical maintenance team at WRAIR and keep designated
personnel abreast of all relevant issues
- General
building facility maintenance for water and air conditioning systems
- Other
duties as requested by the Medical Maintenance Officer and/or Management.
Qualifications:
- Diploma
in medical engineenng from a recognized institution.
- At
least three years working experience in a busy medical laboratory.
Preference will be given to applicants who have served in a medical
research laboratory.
- Must
have ability to maintain and repair freezers and fridges.
