Vacancies in the Ministry of Education


Senior Deputy Director of Education 

 
Four (4) Posts V/No. 155/2012
Basic Salary Scale:
Ksh.94,235 — Ksh.120,270 p.m.

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Deputy Director of Education, Job Group ‘Q’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service;
  • a Bachelors degree in Education, OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Education option OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree plus a Post Graduate diploma in Education from a recognized university;
  • a Masters degree in Education from a recognized university;
  • attended a Strategic Leadership Development course lasting not less than four (6) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • demonstrated professional competence and administrative capability desirable for the formulation of educational goals and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities


A Senior Deputy Director of Education will be responsible to the Director of Secondary and Tertiary Education for formulation and implementation of Education Policies and Practices.


Deputy Director of Education

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Senior Assistant Director of Education, Job Group ‘P’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service;
  • a Bachelors degree in Education, OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Education option OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree plus a Post Graduate diploma in Education from a recognized university;
  • a Masters degree in Education from a recognized university;
  • attended a Strategic Leadership Development course lasting not less than four (6) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • demonstrated professional competence and administrative capability required to manage an educational programme at the headquarters.

Duties and Responsibilities


A Deputy Director of Education will be responsible to the Senior Deputy Director of Education for planning, coordination, development and administration of a National Education programme.


Assistant Director of Adult and Continuing Education

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Principal Adult and Continuing Education Officer, Job Group ‘N’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service;
  • a Bachelors degree in Education, OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Education option OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree plus a Post Graduate diploma in Education from a recognized university;
  • a Masters degree in Education from a recognized university;
  • attended a Senior Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • demonstrated ability in leadership and management of large programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities


Duties and responsibilities at this level include:

  • being in-charge of a section within the headquarters or a specific Adult and Continuing Education program within the headquarters.
  • Planning, promoting and coordinating all Adult and Continuing Education program under him/her.

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Assistant Director of Education, Job Group ‘N’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service;
  • a Bachelors degree in Education, OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Education option OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree plus a Post Graduate diploma in Education from a recognized university;
  • a Masters degree in Education from a recognized university;
  • attended a Senior Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • demonstrated professional competence and administrative ability to head a specific programme and develop personnel working under him/her.

Duties and Responsibilities


Duties and responsibilities at this level include:

  • being in-charge of a District Education office or hold an equivalent position in the Ministry headquarters.
  • implementation and evaluation of educational programmes; and
  • planning, promoting and coordinating all educational activities under him/her.

Senior Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Standards

(Job Group ‘P’)


For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Standards, Job Group ‘N’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service;
  • a Bachelors degree in Education, OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Education option OR a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree plus a Post Graduate diploma in Education from a recognized university;
  • a Masters degree in Education from a recognized university;
  • attended a Senior Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • demonstrated professional competence and administrative capability required for effective performance of duties at that level.

Duties and Responsibilities


An Officer at this level will be in-charge of a District Education office or hold an equivalent position in the Ministry headquarters.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • assisting the Senior Deputy Director of Quality Assurance and Standards in;
  • co-ordination of inspection and supervision of schools to ensure maintenance of standards, co-ordination of inspectorate Administrative Services;
  • co-ordination of Education Standards, Research and Curriculum Evaluation services; and
  • controlling and maintaining education standards in schools.

Principal Superintending Engineer

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Chief Superintending Engineer (Roads), Job Group ‘P’ or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
  • a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or comparable qualification from a recognized university;
  • a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university;
  • been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya and be a corporate member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya;
  • attended a Strategic Leadership Development programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks in a recognized Institution;
  • a high degree of professional competence, administrative capacity and leadership qualities required for effective planning, direction, control and co-ordination of technical projects;
  • demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of civil engineering programmes; and
  • a thorough understanding of national goals, policies and development objectives and the ability to translate them into efficient transport systems, policies and programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities


The Principal Superintending Engineer will be responsible to the Senior Principal Superintendent Engineer.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • being in-charge of supervision of projects in aerodromes, airstrips, seaport, rail, roads and general civil works;
  • development and review of general and specific policies and strategies for the transport sector;
  • studying the social, economic and environmental impacts of transporting systems on the ecosystems;
  • planning, directing, controlling and designing of transportation projects;
  • planning, directing, controlling and monitoring operations of transportation systems;
  • planning, directing and controlling of research, standardization and operation of transport systems; and
  • any other duties relevant to the specialization as may be assigned from time to time.
