Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direction of the Somalia UNFPA Representative and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager of South & Central sub-office, the incumbent will work with authorities, humanitarian agencies, UN system organizations, civil society and local communities to provide humanitarian assistance to affected communities in south & central regions of Somalia.
The incumbent will be based in Mogadishu (WHO Office) and will have responsibilities for the day-to-day operations on the ground and oversight of the humanitarian response programme including reproductive health and GBV.
The incumbent must have the ability to travel to emergency places within his/her respective areas in south central that are approved by the United Nations Security Coordinator and UN Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS).
The incumbent will perform the following duties:-
- Assist to conduct an inventory of humanitarian and relief partners, including national and international NGOs.
- Contributes to development of strong working relationship with implementing partners in central &southern regions of Somalia through networking with local partners.
- In collaboration with humanitarian agencies and partners, assist to establish and maintain baseline information and data collection on health facilities, drugs and medical equipment in relation to reproductive health services.
- In collaboration with humanitarian agencies and local authorities, participate in joint assessments to IDPs and affected population areas
- Liaise with health service providers and managers of health facilities through direct and indirect contact including different means to ensure effective and timely implementation of UNFPA supported activities.
- Maintain an up to date inventory of RH kits and assist in establishing a monitoring mechanism/system for RH kits and commodities that takes into account access, utilization rate, coverage and distribution.
- Assist in clearance of UNFPA commodities arriving in Mogadishu and arrange for transportation, storage and distribution in coordination with service providers and health coordinators in areas affected by the humanitarian crisis.
- Assist the Head of South Central office in the implementation and monitoring of the GBV plan for SC to ensure the continuous, systematic and quality capacity building of implementing partners in prevention and response.
- In collaboration with humanitarian agencies and local authorities assist in organizing GBV working group meetings.
- Assist in mapping RH/GBV service facilities and help in developing training plans in GBV prevention and response.
- Assist to Maintain and enhance UNFPA profile within the humanitarian aid community by contributing to politically-sensitive networking, advocacy, coordination and information-dissemination strategy for and within the area of operation.
- Keep Mogadishu office files and documents and communications with partners.
- Perform other functions as may be requested by head of office.

Qualifications and Experience Required
- Diploma in Midwifery, nursing, management/Administration, public health, Gender or other related social science/ development studies.
- A minimum of three to five years of increasingly responsible experience in humanitarian and relief operations,
- Field prior experience in the UN system will be an asset
- Experience in reproductive and sexual health, safe motherhood with preferably some experience on gender and development issues
- Proficiency in English required; knowledge of Somali language is MUST
- Initiative and sound judgment. Dedication to the United Nations principles and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with concerned partners
