Job Location: Nairobi Immediate Start Preferred Initial 12 month contract with potential extension
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced senior manager and leader to head our East Africa operational surge capacity response programme, based in Nairobi.
We are looking for a Surge Response Manager with proven experience of relief work, and strong leadership and management skills in order to effectively lead the start up and implementation of our new DM programme in accordance with Tearfund's approach to good practice, policy and strategy.
The Surge Response Manager will be responsible for overseeing Tearfund's surge response to the East Africa crisis involving forming and developing partnerships with specified new agencies in the Somalia region (including border areas with Kenya and Ethiopia) and supporting them with surge capacity as per partner requests; researching and, if viable, setting up a Tearfund operational programme - leading, managing, representing and setting the strategic direction. The post holder will ensure that operational response implementation is in line with Tearfund and DMT policy and strategy and ensure projects reflect Quality Standard commitments. The post holder will also be responsible for developing and maintaining contacts with donor representatives and managing donor funding for the programme. As the most senior representative for Tearfund for their surge and operational response, the post holder will be responsible for high level representation to the relevant Governments, donors and the UN and for coordination with other NGOs and UN agencies.
The post holder will have overall responsibility for security management and health and safety within the surge and operational responses.
The post requires frequent travel to field sites. Applicants will be educated to degree level and must have substantive up-to-date working knowledge of relief environments within an International NGO environment. We require an excellent leader with strong organisational skills, people management, security management, negotiation and representation skills. Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Salary: £34,000 plus competitive benefits package
