Head of Procurement Job Career


A lead manufacturer and marketer in the highly competitive nutritional foods segment of the FMCG sector.

The company products are manufactured to international standards and are distributed throughout the East Africa region and beyond.

Since its inception over ten years ago, the company has made great strides towards the attainment of operational excellence; this has included the implementation of a robust ERP system, upgrading of manufacturing equipment and the implementation of internal quality management standards. There are also plans to commission a new plant in the near future.
The role of Head of Procurement is expected to make a significant contribution during this expansion phase as it supports the supply chain for the business and the envisaged projects.
Reporting to the Managing Director, your core deliverable will be the effective management of the procurement function in a manner that supports the implementation of the organisation’s future plans.

Key Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Initiating policy on procurement processes, benchmarking and implementing professional best practice policies, procedures and plans resulting in the development and implementation of procurement policies manual and appropriate plans
  • Implementing the strategic selection of suppliers and monitoring their performance to maximize quality, service and cost; this includes negotiation of long term supplier contracts
  • Developing and managing supplier relationships and resolves vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers.
  • Adequacy of the ROL and adherence to the EOQ ensuring compliance with inventory holding levels internally.
  • Overseeing the tendering process from bid document preparation to contracting including the preparation of bid awards requiring board approval.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards
  • Administration the on-line purchasing system, controlling purchasing department budget and preparation of periodic reports
  • General welfare, supervising training, motivating, evaluating and development of procurement staff to achieve highest levels of performance.
Qualification and experience
  • Graduate with a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supplies (CIPS) qualification in procurement
  • At least 5 years experience that includes the management of procurement and logistics on a global basis
  • Planning and organizing skills including the ability to manage and prioritise many conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external customers at a senior level
  • People management skills including target setting and performance monitoring
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
