Mercy Corps Field Supervisors and Drivers Jobs in Kenya

Mercy Corps Kenya is currently responding to the drought by increasing access to affordable water in Wajir County, Northeast Kenya.

The Emergency Drought Response in Northeastern, Kenya will provide immediate emergency, rebuild the livelihoods of target communities and build the capacity of local organizations involved in the implementation of the program.

The proposed program integrates the principles of response to immediate needs, restoration of livelihoods, and capacity building for long-term recovery.

We are currently recruiting for qualified candidates to fill the following positions which will be based in Wajir.

1. Field Supervisors

2 Positions

Based in Wajir

General Position Summary:

The Field Supervisor is responsible for implementing projects in Mercy Corps’ targeted areas in Wajir County, maintaining close contact with the community and ensuring that programs are effectively delivering results.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for the implementation in the field of the Relief and Recovery for Northern Kenya’s Drought-Affected Population and Livestock Economy programs, ensuring that the program’s objectives are met;
  • Supervise field monitors to ensure that all activities are carried out effectively with full community participation;
  • Act as focal point for communication with communities, relief committees, monitors and other stakeholders;
  • Assist the Program Officer and management team in planning for project implementation;
  • Facilitate beneficiary selection for participation in project activities;
  • Support the Program Officer to ensure the project is monitored and documented, and makes recommendations for future activities and priorities to Program Officer;
  • Documents (with photographs and written reports) all program activities;
  • Represent Mercy Corps in a professional manner to suppliers, government officials, local and international community members and community groups, suppliers, the UN and others as needed;
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: Field Monitors

Accountability
  • Reports Directly To: Program Officer
  • Works Directly With: M&E Officer, Logistics, Finance
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Diploma in community Development and Project planning/mobilization or relevant social science qualification.
  • Degree is added advantage.
  • Significant experience with field supervision and/or community mobilization on cash, voucher and/or livelihoods programs in Wajir County.
  • Good analytical, negotiating and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail,
  • Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required.
  • Strong English, Kiswahili and Somali language skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

2) Drivers

2 Positions

Based in Wajir

General Position Summary:

The driver will provide safe, transport services for MC staff in Wajir and Nairobi. The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines outlined in the fleet manual.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Operate MC vehicles as assigned by supervisor;
  • Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with MC policies/regulations;
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and problems to logistics department;
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor;
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc.;
  • Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use at all times;
  • Assist, as required, with logistics, program and admin functions in the Wajir office;
  • Cooperate and be of assistance to staff and visitors whenever necessary;
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management on a regular basis;
  • Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals;
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: None

Accountability
  • Reports Directly To: Logistics Officer
  • Works Directly With: Operations department Logistics, Administrative, program & Finance
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least 3 years experience driving in Wajir and Nairobi.
  • First Aid Course and with proven experience in First Aid management.
  • Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules.
  • Understanding of written and spoken English and Kiswahili is required.
  • Extensive Knowledge of routings in Wajir West and South area is required
  • Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Basic Motor Vehicle Mechanic course required.
