The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Purpose of the post
Under the general supervision of the Finance Officer, the incumbent will be the principal assistant with responsibility for accounts maintenance and budget control functions of the office.Major duties and responsibilities:
1. Participate in and supervise a variety of tasks such as the following:
- Maintenance of ledgers and accounting records for classification and recording of financial transactions and for the reconciliation of accounts and preparation of recurring or special reports;
- Calculation and payment of salaries, allowances, travel claims and other payments to staff members/consultants, vendors and other claimants;
- Maintenance of cash books, including control of disbursements and balancing of books &ledgers;
- Preparation of financial data for budget estimates and financial planning;
- Reconciliation of cash books with bank statements;
2. Assist higher level officers in all aspects of accounts maintenance and budget control by providing reports on financial status, procedures, exchange rates, costs and expenditures, and potential funding problems.
3. Supervise and train staff members in the section, providing accounting, and clerical assistance and evaluate their work.
4. Perform other duties, as required.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies
- Completion of secondary education.
- Knowledge of automated budgeting and accounting systems and training in financial management and/or accounting principles.
- Possession of University degree will be an added advantage.
- At least seven years’ experience in accounting or financial-related work of the organization with good aptitude for working with figures.
- Commitment to meeting deadlines and drive for results.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact readily staff members at all levels.
- A good knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of the local language an asset.
