The driver will work closely with the Administrative Assistant for his/her area of assignment and will be responsible for operating the office vehicles and providing transport services to staff members and any other authorized personnel as instructed by the Supervisor.
If successful, you’ll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Somalia and Nairobi that works together to improve the health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Somali girls and boys and protect them from violence, exploitation and abuse”.
The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and visitors on official duty.
- Delivery and collection of mail, UNICEF official pouches and other packages as requested.
- Transport arriving and departing visitors and staff members to and from the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
- Maintain regular radio checks with the UNICEF office. The office must be informed of any deviations as deemed necessary.
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. Perform minor repairs and arrange for regular servicing and repairs. Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.
- Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc. in the driver’s Log Book and/or Vehicle Log Book.
- Ensure that the steps required by UN/UNICEF rules and regulations are adhered to in case of involvement in accidents or in reporting incidents of theft and adhere to the strict security regulations of UNICEF.
- Act as interpreter and guide for staff and visitors on official field trips.
- Perform any other related duty as required.
Qualifications, experience & Skills
- Completion of secondary school education.
- Two (2) years work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
- Skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English and Somali.
