Elimu Yetu Coalition is a national Education coalition established in 1999 as part of the local efforts to domesticate Education for All Goals in Kenya. 

The coalition brings together a membership of more than 80 organizations drawn from the civil society organizations, professional groupings, education/research institutions and other non -state actors in Kenya’s education sector. 

Together, they lobby for the implementation of EFA goals as articulated in the Jomtien Declaration and Dakar Framework of Action and other related global conventions for the attainment of quality basic education for all in Kenya. 

Utilizing a rights-based approach (RBA) in its campaign initiatives, EYC focuses on mobilizing and harnessing the collective efforts of all education stake holders and local communities in Kenya and providing leadership in the on-going efforts to make EFA a reality in Kenya.

EYC wishes to advertise for the position of Finance and Admin Officer

Position: Finance and Admin Officer

Reporting to:
Finance and Admin Manager

Terms of employment:
Contract 1 year (renewable depending on performance)

Workstation: EYC Secretariat in Nairobi

Time: Immediately

Job Function

This is a middle level management position. The Finance and Admin Officer will work closely with the Finance and Admin Manager. Besides using independent and wise judgment in making decisions, you are expected to consult extensively with the Finance and Admin Manager and other staff members.

Broad Areas of Responsibility

1. Cash accounting & management: - maintaining all the cash books, issue cash payments, ensure floats are used for the purpose for which they were issued and that they are recovered on a timely basis, ensure that all cash expenditures are appropriately approved, ensure that cash expenditures are coded correctly and charged to the appropriate donor/project and cash accounts. This will entail monitoring and controlling disbursement of funds &tracking of budgets and expenditures.

2. Cheque processing: -Process cheque payments and ensuring that appropriate supporting documentation is attached to all cheque payments, ensure that all invoices are paid on time and that expenditures are appropriately authorized. This will involve verification and management of all incoming invoices and review the classification of all vouchers, claims and receipts.

3. Financial management and reporting: - Work closely with the Finance and Admin Manager to ensure timely submission of reports to the management and donor’s .Compilation of audit files to facilitate external audits; prepare financial reports and reconciliations for internal monitoring of resource use. This will include management financial information and production of accurate, timely, complete and reliable periodical financial reports for programme decision making.

4. Planning, budgeting and compliance: Support the campaign team in reviewing budgets for all campaign plans. Assist the campaigns team in preparation of activity based budget. This will require preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual budgets and tracking all payments for compliance. FAO will also ensure compliance with all donor/partner requirements and procedures.

5. Membership fees; Follow up on membership and subscription fees and making sure that the Coalition’s membership to other organizations is up to date. Ensure that all members are issued with statements.

Required Qualifications

Qualified Accountant with either
 
1. CPA (K), or
 
2. ACCA III or

3. First degree in Accounting and CPA (2)

At least two years of progressive experience, in a similar position, gained working in an NGO, preferably at the national level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to use accounting packages i.e. Quick books, Pastel, Sage, Ms-Excel
  • Good Interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to train and mentor project staff on finance
  • Ability to adhere to donor requirements and be able to communicate the same to the project team
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Team player
  • Good organization and time management skills
