Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund Senior Accountant Job in Kenya

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has contracted KPMG Development Advisory Services (KPMG DAS) to provide fund management services for the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (the AECF or the Fund) through a competitive tender process. AGRA and the AECF donors have established the AECF as a Special Partnership Initiative of AGRA.

Under this arrangement, AGRA operates the AECF as a separate programme with its own identity, administrative processes and systems, and branding, within AGRA’s legal personality and systems.
The AECF is a challenge fund capitalised by multilateral and bilateral donors (the AECF donors) to stimulate private sector entrepreneurs in Africa to innovate and find profitable ways of doing business that result in increasing the incomes of, and employment opportunities for, the rural poor.

KPMG DAS wishes to secure the services of a Senior Accountant to assist in the management of the AECF’s portfolio of investments/projects.
This post will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, reporting to the Risk and Compliance Manager of the AECF.
Key roles and responsibilities
Budget Preparation:
  • Preparation, management, review and updating of the AECF annual budget;
  • Preparation of new window budgets in coordination with the Operations Manager;
  • Monthly review of budget to actuals with explanations for significant differences listed;
Financial Reporting:
  • Preparation and review of monthly AECF accounts;
  • Preparation of financial reports and analysis as and when requested by Donors, AECF Directors/advisors, Operations Manager and Risk and Compliance Manager.
Financial Management:
  • Review recording of all invoices / payments in the system.
  • Review payment vouchers and/or cheques for suppliers, associates and subcontractors.
  • Review reconciliation of consultant payments with the contracts including days billed against the contract.
  • Review reconciliation the AECF project bank account on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare engagement fee notes.
  • Support the Grants Manager as and when required in grantee financial management.
Financial Procedures:
  • Support the Risk and Compliance Manager in implementing a financial procedures manual.
  • Support the Risk and Compliance Manager in designing new policies and procedures to improve the AECF internal financial management.
Performance Management:
  • Act as performance manager for the Finance Assistant conducting annual objective setting and six monthly progress discussions.
Qualifications and experience
  • CPA (K) Qualified, preferably a registered member of ICPAK.
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience.
  • Graduate qualifications in Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting related degree.
  • A good grasp of Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Software.
