Swedish Cooperative Centre Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Manager Kenyan Job

The Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) is a development organization operating in more than 30 countries worldwide, with its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, but organized in decentralized regions.

The Regional Office for Eastern Africa is based in Nairobi, Kenya and it supports partner organisations and programmes at both national and regional level in four countries in Eastern Africa; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
Within this Region, SCC works closely with the sister organization Vi Agroforestry.
Vi Agroforestry supports small-scale farmers to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods through sustainable farming, microfinance and business development.
SCC/Vi Agroforestry Regional Office for Eastern Africa wishes to recruit for the following position:

Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Manager
Reporting to the Regional Director, the individual will be based in Nairobi with regular trips and travels within the Region, Africa and Sweden, the position is to provide technical support to the Region in resource mobilization and fundraising. The major duties and responsibility are to:

a. To coordinate Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Initiatives within the Region
1. Strategy Development and Implementation
  •  Develop and implement a resource mobilization strategy for the region.
  • Monitor the coordination/implementation of resource mobilisation and fundraising strategy/plan in the region.
  • Co-ordinate and implement training and capacity building initiatives for staff and partners (where relevant) in regard to fundraising and resource mobilization based on need assessments.
2. Coordination of Resource Mobilization
  • Identify and develop institutional relationships that are necessary for fundraising.
  • Complete and regularly update a scan on bilateral and multilateral and private sector donors priorities and keep the organization informed of funding opportunities
  • Coordinate and strengthen the links between Regional Office and the Head Office.
  • Disseminate information to relevant programmes regarding donors’ application processes and deadlines.
  • Coordinate and write concept papers and proposals to respond to specific solicited and unsolicited funding opportunities and ensure they correspond with the mandate and values of the organization.
  • Follow-up submission of proposal with effective liaison with donors, as permitted and ensure donor questions and concerns are fully/adequately addressed in a timely manner.
  • Regularly update the list of on-going proposals with different back donors for the regional office as well as the Head Office.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with other Regions and to participate as a team member in the development of proposals in other countries and regions upon request or when such opportunity arises.
3. Donor Scoping
  • Support mapping and back donor assessments of potential donors in each program.
  • Give technical input on funding proposals based on donor mapping and compliance requirements.
  • Establish contacts and networks with other likeminded organizations and back donors.
  • Research and analyse donor calls for funding applications, expression of interest and request for proposals.
  • Prepare Regional update including information on donors’ thematic areas of focus on a regular basis.
4. Quality Control in fundraising
  • Continuous update and coach staff on methods and changes relation to resource mobilization and fundraising.
  • Evaluate and systematize analyse experiences and lessons learnt from each program in relation to resource mobilization.
5. Ensuring Effective Communication
  • Coordinate communication within the Region related to Resource Mobilization and Fundraising.
  • Responsible for developing information material to be used in contact with back donors.
  • Develop Communication Plans.
  • Coach staff on communication issues.
  • Facilitate experience sharing and shared learning on resource mobilization and fundraising within the Region and with Head Office.
b. Provide technical support to all programmes in correct grant handling policies and procedures.

Academic and Professional Qualifications
The candidate we are looking for should be a holder a bachelor’s degree in Development/Social Studies, Business Administration Finance, Humanitarian and/or Communication.  A master’s degree in Business Administration or Development Work will be an added advantage.
The individual should also possess Diploma in Fundraising and Resource Mobilization/Communication/Public Relations.
In addition, he/she should have at least 5 years relevant work experience in an INGO, (3 of which should have been at senior management level) with overall responsibility for  Resource Mobilization and Fundraising preferably working for an INGO operating in a developing country.

  • Sufficient knowledge and experience of International Development work.
  • Working knowledge of computer application packages and Internet.
  • Good interpersonal skills to be able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Networking and negotiation skills.
  • Planning and organizing ability to be able to accomplish tasks on schedule, file and retrieve information.
  • Effective communication both oral and written English.
  • Proposal and report writing skills.
  • Effective leadership and managerial skills.
