Job Description: Field Officer II – Lamu County
 
Reporting to: Senior Purchasing Officer

About Us:  Equatorial Nut Processors is one of the leading edible nut concerns in East Africa. 

The company’s range of products, for both local and export markets, focuses on three principal nuts – Macadamia, Cashew and Peanuts. 

ENP was founded in 1994, and it has grown over the years to occupy a prominent position in the region’s nut sector. 

ENP intends to recruit for a Field Officer II for Lamu County with day to day assignments aimed at ensuring ENP gets enough cashew nuts sourced during the buying season, undertake registration and organizing cashew farmers for sustainable business relations, improved productivity and quality of nuts and sustainable income earnings for farmers. 
Keys Performance Objectives: 

  • Sourcing of Cashew during the season through the identified company procurement strategy;
  • Registration of farmer’s data and trade information data using the tool provided for creation of farmer’s aggregations in allocated areas;
  • Hold strategic forums with the farmer towards building aggregations to share the results of the analysis and diagnostics carried out including how efficiencies can be generated on the institutional level, yield, captivity, logistics and quality (humidity and outturn);
  • Plan trainings to strength farmers and connect farmers to a processor in a sustainable way and based on the tasks the farmer aggregation wants to/ can assume.
  • Deliver key messages for farmers based on the training received on farmers organisation, record keeping, leadership supply chain contracts, good agronomic practices
  • Undertake farmers training s at the farmer’s group levels on various topical issues on good agricultural practices,  quality management, strengthening organizational and institutional capacity, financial management, understanding supply chain partnership model agreed upon by private sector sectors, cost benefit analysis, market linkages and contracting and child labour issues
  • Any other assignments as may be allocated from time to time.
Qualification and Values for position holder
  • A diploma holder preferably in agribusiness management, agriculture education and extension, community development or other related courses;
  • Ability to deliver trainings to farmers groups essential
  • Past experience in organizing community groups is desirable
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good relationships with stakeholders
  • Commitment to work within defined deadlines
  • Willingness to ride a motorbike is key
  • Excellent, formal and courteous communication skills

IT Field Coordinators Jobs in Kenya

Field Coordinators - 3 month Fixed term Contract
A non-profit making organization working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health is seeking a qualified Kenyans to fill the position of Field Coordinators. 

These are various positions based in the following counties; Kwale, Lamu, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta and Mombasa.

The field coordinators will support the counties health workers in the rollout of an IT based system to the ministry of health. People based in these counties are highly encouraged to apply .

The coordinator must be able to function independently and flexibly as well as build strong relationships with county government officials and partners across the public and private sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble and set up the various PC components at the health facilities
  • Training the users on the various aspects of PC handling, maintenance and use. 
  • Train users on the actual use of the system i.e. using browsers, creating log in emails, navigating the platform, and online commodity management
  • Monitoring and reporting-Carry out monthly assessment and report on the progress and effectiveness of the platform
  • Convey the concerns/suggestions of the county teams on the improvement on the platform and the general effectiveness of the program
  • Logistics-Coordinate movement of the equipment (PCs) from vendors, receiving at the counties, ensures safe storage; ensure safety   transportation to the facility and proper choice of installation position in the facility/health centers.
  • Inventory-Work with counties to keep up to date  inventory of all the  equipment used in the rollout
Requirements
  • First university degree in a related field – Computer Science, IT  etc. or  equivalent relevant experience
  • Proficiency  in Microsoft office applications
  • At least 1 year experience related working experience or working in IT programs.
  • Good understanding of health systems in Kenya and the operations at the county government.
  • Approachable, positive, friendly and has proactive customer service philosophy. Generally pleasant demeanor and highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ready to work in hardship areas

Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) Field Officers Jobs in Lower Eastern and Central Rift Kenya

The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) is a membership-based organization registered in Kenya with country offices in Uganda and Tanzania. 
Our members are key stakeholders and players in the grain value chain including cereal growers, millers and processors drawn from within and outside the East Africa States. 
Our core mandate is to develop and promote orderly structured marketing systems and provide market information for grains so as to reduce transaction costs and eliminate barriers’ to regional trade.

We seek to employ Field Officers in Lower Eastern and Central Rift, who have a strong work ethic, highly organised, team players, self motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.

Reporting to the Project Officer WRS who is also the Team Leader –EAGC Kenya, the successful candidates will be responsible for the following amongst others:
  • Plan, develop and execute the Warehouse Receipt Systems (WRS) activities in assigned area including identifying potential farmers/ farmer groups and markets for aggregated commodities.
  • Identify and oversee the establishment of aggregations centers and WRS certified warehouses.
  • Link aggregation centers to WRS certified warehouses.
  • Establish market linkages & identify buyers for the commodity held in the warehouses.
  • Ensure all warehouses under their jurisdiction submit data via the Real-Time Volume Tracking (RTVT) System.
  • Collect and relay any relevant market information to EAGC including crop updates, price information, grain supply and demand and grain sources.
  • Sensitize and create awareness about WRS to farmers, traders and other stakeholders through trainings, field days, workshops, fairs and any other forums.
  • Mobilize farmers to deliver the set volume targets for maize, wheat, paddy rice and pulses to certified warehouses.
  • Conduct training on proper post-harvest handling, grain quality standards, and WRS process.
  • Prepare field activity reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis.
  • Maintain an up to date record of all farmers, farmer groups, aggregation centers, warehouses and stakeholders.
  • Manage other EAGC activities such as Agribusiness Expos.
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in agricultural economics, agribusiness or related agricultural field
  • Two (2) years relevant working experience.
  • Experience working with farmers or in an agribusiness environment will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A problem solver, team player and independent thinker.
  • Capacity to manage several tasks simultaneously. Be flexible and willing to assume a range of unanticipated assignments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in use of Ms Office suite.
  • Have a valid motor cycle riding licenses and a minimum of two years riding experience.

IUCN Participation for Change Project Field Officer Job in Kenya


The International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental organization.

IUCN operates through regional offices including the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO).

ESARO has the following programmes in fulfilling its inter-sessional goals: drylands programme, water and wetlands programme, forest programme, business and biodiversity programme and conservation areas and species diversity programme.

The vacant position falls under the regional drylands programme.
The goal of the ESARO drylands programme is that “Dryland landscapes are sustainably managed to protect biodiversity and contribute to local livelihoods and national economies”.

IUCN will use its influence to encourage and assist societies to promote good governance and to respect local knowledge to ensure that dryland ecosystems are sustainably managed.

To protect Drylands Biodiversity, IUCN addresses the underlying constraints to effective natural resource governance, builds the institutional capacity for sustainable natural resource management, and supports access to markets for the products of sustainably managed drylands.

IUCN emphasizes building the capacity of local environment and development partners, empowering natural resource managers, and enabling them to influence policy processes that will lead to sustainable investment and resilient livelihoods.

Project Background

The Participation for Change Project within the drylands programme goal is to ensure the development of appropriate pastoralist policies in East Africa that are based on local participation and knowledge and that enhance food security for pastoralist communities.

Specifically the project aims to strengthen the engagement and coordination of indigenous pastoral associations in local and national food-security-related policy processes to promote participation, accountability and transparency in policy formulation and implementation.

The main results areas are:
  • Strengthened capacity of pastoralists association to effectively participate in evidence-based decision-making related to food security, at local, national and cross border levels.
  • Increased opportunities to effectively engage with decision-makers on food security-related issues at local, national and cross border levels and link to regional and global networks.
  • Greater generation, use and sharing of local and scientific knowledge and learning on ecosystem based approaches to dryland food security across local pastoralist associations, to influence national and regional policies.
  • Support to key food security-related biodiversity enterprises which model policies in practice and support linkages across pastoralist community groups.

General Scope

Under the general supervision of the Senior Programme Officer; he/she will ensure the coordination, and implementation of the project in Northern Kenya and Ethiopia.

He /she will ensure that the project outputs and deliverables are effectively attained within the project time frame. 

Specific responsibilities include:

1. General
  • Ensure that Project activities are implemented and contributing to the achievement of the project’s objectives;
  • Under the guidance of the Head of Office, provide technical inputs and guide project outputs at national and sub‐national levels as required;
  • Collate information on a regular basis from the project components and prepare project reports and other required project documents.
2. Specific tasks

2.1 Project management and implementation
  • Oversee and support the implementation of all project activities within the Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia project;
  • Work closely with project implementing partners to develop project work plans;
  • Ensure that project budgets are efficiently managed according to activity work plans;
  • Ensure that project budgets are utilized and monitored in accordance with IUCN internal controls and donor regulations;
  • Develop strong relationships with local communities and ensure community ownership and engagement in all activities;
  • Work closely with project implementing partners in the organization and implementation of project workshops, training and community activities and provide technical guidance and logistical support to these events;
  • Ensure the close engagement of local government and other stakeholders in the implementation of the project’s activities;
  • Contribute to implementation of regional activities when required.
2.2 Project monitoring and reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of technical and financial reports, according to the donor reporting requirements monitoring requirements;
  • Assist in the development of project monitoring and evaluation and ensure the regular collection of performance data;
  • Create positive functional link between the project and the project steering committee;
  • Assist in the convening of learning events and ensure the resultant lessons are adequately captured and documented;
  • Support the development of communication products and contribute to the effective presentation of project experiences and lessons learned.
2.3 Technical support and guidance
  • Working closely with the IUCN Regional Office, and project implementing partners, facilitate the establishment and maintenance of national and cross-border Networks;
  • Contribute to and support awareness raising on pastoral food security issues;
  • Provide guidance and technical input to ensure IUCN’s principles of nature-based solutions are incorporated into project activities.
Qualifications

The position requires a professional with at least 3 years of professional field experience in the implementation of projects within the natural resource management or pastoral development sectors. 

The following specific qualifications are required:

Knowledge Base
  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, or natural resources management. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with results-based project cycle management including monitoring and evaluation methodologies and principles and project budget management.
  • Experience in community based natural resource management (CBNRM).
  • A good understanding of drylands conservation and sustainable development issues.
  • Experience in interacting with multiple stakeholders including local government officials and in mobilising and developing relationships with local communities.
  • A track record of constructive advocacy with decision‐makers and of influencing the outcomes of policy debates.
  • Good communication skills and proven writing ability.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Personal Attributes
  • High personal integrity especially in matters related to finance, official information and communications.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and function in multicultural and remote environments.
  • A good team worker who can also display leadership abilities.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the region for not less than 40% of work year, sometimes at a short notice.

Job Description:

 

Field Officers will work individually to identify program beneficiaries, collect data in the field, and complete other tasks required for the project or assigned by a supervisor.

 

The work will be based in Siaya County, though the exact location has not been confirmed. 

 

Working outside of standard business hours in either the morning or evening or on weekends will sometimes be necessary.
 

Work Duration: 

 

Successful applicants will initially be hired on a casual basis for a period of time ranging from 1 week to 3 weeks. 

 

Those who demonstrate consistent exceptional performance and ability will be considered for longer -term placement.
 

Qualifications: 

 

It is preferred, but not required, that candidates possess a college diploma, preferably in the social sciences, development studies, education, health, or related fields. 

 

Candidates must have completed their Form 4.

Overall Job Purpose
