MTN Business System Engineer and Network Engineer Jobs in Nairobi Kenya

We wish to urgently identify highly competent, proactive and self driven individuals to fill the following positions which are based in Nairobi, Kenya.

System Engineer

Reporting to the Service Delivery and Strategic Projects Manager, the ideal candidate will be involved in developing or adapting existing software for use in various systems and products at MTN Business.   

The incumbent shall be responsible for:

• Installation, configuration, customization and administering UNIX/Linux based and windows systems, Vmware based e-Mail servers, DNS, Database servers, caching servers and monitoring servers.
• Systems administration including design, installation, monitoring, support and maintenance of MTN Business systems and applications.
• Developing and adapting existing software for use in management and monitoring of systems Including routers, switches and servers using Java and other open source scripting tools like UNIX/Linux shell scripting, php and some perl.
• Administering CLaRiioN EMC Storage Arrays and EMC Avamar managed Backup (Information Storage and Management Systems).
• Administering Server Virtualization platforms on Vmware vSphere and Web server administration.
• Providing 3rd level support on escalation.
• Administering of Database Management Systems such as Postgres and MySQL.
• Providing systems specific pre- sale function.
• Providing technical input on various aspects of products development.

Knowledge, skills and ability required:

• University Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or Engineering related field such as Electrical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in Linux/UNIX system Installation and administration with specific knowledge of shell scripting, DNS management, email systems and Web related services.
• Solid understanding of programming logic, knowledge and experience in at least one programming language like java, C, php or python in developing short scripts or applications.
• Experience with high–availability and business continuity solutions.
• Experience in Security technology including AAA (authentication, authorisation and   auditing services, firewalls, SSL, KPI, RADIUS/Tacacs+ and hardening.
• Excellent working knowledge of directory services systems.
• Good working Knowledge of IP network.

Network Engineer

Reporting to the Service Delivery and Strategic Projects Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining MTN Business Core network and developing network solutions. 

The incumbent will have the mandate of:

• Monitoring of network vital signs.
• Providing 3rd level support on escalation.
• Managing and monitoring of the countrywide network services infrastructure and facilities.
• Diagnosing, proactively monitoring and resolving faults and outages.
• Management of the IP address routing policies, plans and procedures.
• Configuration, maintenance and documentation of the network access servers.
• Interacting with customers and suppliers to implement solutions and resolve faults.
• Implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure, nationally and internationally. 
• Facilitating management and maintenance of PoPs and going for client visits.
• Managing carrier services.

Knowledge, skills and ability required:

• A Bachelors degree in Information Technology/ Computer Science / Electrical Engineering.
• At least 3 years experience in telecommunication or ISP environment, with one year of direct experience in core switching and routing environment.
• Advanced Cisco and Juniper certification such as CCNP, JNCIP, JNCIS would be an added advantage.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Capacity to multi – task, prioritise and pay attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
