Agricultural Accountant

Summary   

Our client, a subsidiary of a leading multinational is involved in large scale tea production with a commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental care. 


The Agricultural accountant will;

Key Responsibilities


1)    Accounting responsibilities:


a)    Managing ledger updates:

  • Ensure all month end returns are received processed on time
  • Validate journals to ensure correctness and accuracy
b)    Ledger integrity:
  • Carry out concise and timely monthly reconciliations of the general ledger with a view to correction
  • Carry out a review of Trial Balance with a view to understand underlying transactions for relevance and accuracy
  • Put in place preventive measures to avoid ledger errors of omission and commission
  • Uphold general ledger information accuracy and timeliness in line with IAS and Accounting Policy Manual
  • Manage internal/external audits in areas of responsibility
2)    Business Partnering
  • Prepares and issues unit cost of production reports and variance reports
  • Carry out monthly accounts discussions with the Estates Manager, variance and Cost of production reports are presented and reviewed
  • Support the business units forecasting/budgeting process by understanding cost behaviours and providing insights for decision making
3)    Business Controls:
  • Ensure that controls are in place in the Units and are actually working, by reviewing all source documents to ensure that they are supported and dully approved.
  • Perform Operational control assessments (OCA) and selected spot checks
  • Carry out Training of Unit Managers and clerical staff on accounting issues as stipulated in the Accounting Policy Manual and highlighting key controls
  • On a monthly basis the job holder is required to prepare/maintain a management checklist which lists all control issues
 Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in accounting preferably in a large manufacturing company
  • Professional qualifications i.e. CPA-K; ACCA
  • Good planning and analytical skills.
