Recruitment of Deputy Vice Chancellors
 
Kisii University whose Main Campus is situated in Kisii County about 2km from Kisii Town along Kisii-Kilgoris Highway became the thirteenth Public University in Kenya following the award of Charter on 6th February, 2013 under the Universities Act, 2012. 
The University plans to strategically position itself towards training high level human resource that meets the development needs of the country and the international labour market, sustain the production of quality research, disseminate knowledge, skills, innovations and competencies for the advancement of humanity.

Towards this end, Kisii University aims at establishing a strong quality management system that will ensure efficient and effective running of its operations. 
Thus, hiring policies and processes will be used to acquire the best personnel for the University. 
To give the institution a dynamic and strategic leadership, the University Council now invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons with excellent credentials to lead the institution in the positions of Deputy Vice Chancellors.
 
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance)

Duties and Responsibilities
 
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance) will be in charge of Administration and Finance Division of the University, and will have the following duties and responsibilities:
  1. Provide focused and innovative leadership in areas of human resource, finance, procurement and physical resource development and management;
  2. Oversee the development and implementation of institutional policies and strategic procedures to ensure efficient service delivery in accordance with the University Statutes;
  3. Coordinate the design, development and implementation of appropriate administrative, financial, human resource policies, procedures and systems to attract, develop, and retain qualified and motivated staff;
  4. Coordinate the preparation and implementation of University budget, financial statements, management reports and ensure that both annual and medium term expenditures are consistent with legal requirements;
  5. Maintain efficiency and good order of the University including staff welfare, conduct, discipline and ensure proper enforcement of the Statutes and regulations;
  6. Mobilize local, national and international resources that the University may need in executing its mandate; and
  7. Any other responsibilities as may be necessary to achieve the University’s strategic objectives.
Requirements:
 
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
  1. Be a holder of an earned PhD degree from a reputable University and should be a full Professor or Associate Professor;
  2. Have at least ten (10) years academic and research experience with scholarly record demonstrated by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals in their areas of specialization and supervision of Masters and Doctoral students;
  3. Have served successfully in a Senior Administrative and Management position at the level of a Dean/Director/Deputy Principal of a Constituent College/Principal of a Campus College in a University or in other comparable level(s) for at least five (5) years;
  4. Have demonstrated ability and leadership skills to effectively coordinate planning, financial and administrative function in a University environment;
  5. Be a team player with excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and have capacity to work effectively with staff, students and stakeholders;
  6. Show good understanding of University functions and procedures coupled with a passion for the promotion of learning, excellence in teaching, research, innovation and knowledge dissemination;
  7. Have good understanding of the national policies and strategies governing university education and training in Kenya;
  8. Be a registered member of good standing of professional associations in their areas of specialization;
  9. Have capacity to mobilize resources and expand physical facilities necessary to cater for the increasing student enrollment and academic programmes; and
  10. Be of highest ethical standards, integrity, accountability and professionalism and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs)

Duties and Responsibilities
 
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) will be in charge of Academic Matters and Student Affairs of the University and will have the following duties and responsibilities:
  1. Have the overall responsibility of direction, organization and administration of learning programmes in the University;
  2. Coordinate teaching, research, extension and provide the necessary support systems needed in all the academic departments and programmes offered by the University;
  3. Advise Senate in the development of learning programmes, research and extension in conformity with national and international standards and legally recognized professional bodies;
  4. Coordinate student industrial placement, international linkages and promotion of graduate employability;
  5. Coordinate student welfare activities;
  6. Promote activities that attract and support international students;
  7. Be responsible for the general conduct and discipline of students; and
  8. Any other responsibilities as may be necessary to achieve the University’s strategic objectives.
Requirements:

  7. Have excellent understanding of current trends in University education and training globally and the factors and conditions shaping development of university education in Kenya;
  8. Have excellent and proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  9. Show good understanding of University functions and procedures coupled with a passion of promoting learning, excellence in teaching, research and innovation;
  10. Demonstrate capacity to initiate and facilitate the development of relevant and quality market and society driven academic programmes; and
  11. Be of highest ethical standards, integrity, accountability and professionalism and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Terms & Conditions of Service
 
Successful candidates, for the two (2) positions will be offered competitive remuneration packages, including house allowance and other benefits in accordance with the Kenya Government Public Service Guidelines.
 
The appointments will be for a contractual period of five (5) years renewable for a further one term subject to satisfactory performance.
