Equatorial Nut Processors Field Officer II Job in Lamu County, Kenya

Job Description: Field Officer II – Lamu County
 
Reporting to: Senior Purchasing Officer

About Us:  Equatorial Nut Processors is one of the leading edible nut concerns in East Africa. 

The company’s range of products, for both local and export markets, focuses on three principal nuts – Macadamia, Cashew and Peanuts. 

ENP was founded in 1994, and it has grown over the years to occupy a prominent position in the region’s nut sector. 

ENP intends to recruit for a Field Officer II for Lamu County with day to day assignments aimed at ensuring ENP gets enough cashew nuts sourced during the buying season, undertake registration and organizing cashew farmers for sustainable business relations, improved productivity and quality of nuts and sustainable income earnings for farmers. 
Keys Performance Objectives: 

  • Sourcing of Cashew during the season through the identified company procurement strategy;
  • Registration of farmer’s data and trade information data using the tool provided for creation of farmer’s aggregations in allocated areas;
  • Hold strategic forums with the farmer towards building aggregations to share the results of the analysis and diagnostics carried out including how efficiencies can be generated on the institutional level, yield, captivity, logistics and quality (humidity and outturn);
  • Plan trainings to strength farmers and connect farmers to a processor in a sustainable way and based on the tasks the farmer aggregation wants to/ can assume.
  • Deliver key messages for farmers based on the training received on farmers organisation, record keeping, leadership supply chain contracts, good agronomic practices
  • Undertake farmers training s at the farmer’s group levels on various topical issues on good agricultural practices,  quality management, strengthening organizational and institutional capacity, financial management, understanding supply chain partnership model agreed upon by private sector sectors, cost benefit analysis, market linkages and contracting and child labour issues
  • Any other assignments as may be allocated from time to time.
Qualification and Values for position holder
  • A diploma holder preferably in agribusiness management, agriculture education and extension, community development or other related courses;
  • Ability to deliver trainings to farmers groups essential
  • Past experience in organizing community groups is desirable
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good relationships with stakeholders
  • Commitment to work within defined deadlines
  • Willingness to ride a motorbike is key
  • Excellent, formal and courteous communication skills

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To manage collection of coffee and tea from farmers

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience and a passion for logistics / agricultural development in Kenya.
  • Must be 30 years and older
  • Experience in the coffee/tea industry preferred
  • Readiness to work with a start up and grow with it
  • Very proficient and experienced with Computer Applications like Ms Office
  • Excellent problem solver, must be able to come up with and implement solutions
  • Leadership experience at work, including managing a team of people
  • Strong work ethic, willing to work long hours during busy season

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) is an international not-for-profit organisation that facilitates, and promotes public/private partnerships to access, develop, adapt and deliver royalty-free appropriate agricultural technologies for sustainable use by smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
 
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Manager Regulatory Affairs, the Programme Officer will be responsible for coordinating, planning, implementing and monitoring of Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) project regulatory activities to secure permit approvals and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in partner countries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine the functionality of in-country status of regulatory systems in WEMA partner countries with a focus on process and procedures while keeping track of the status of regulatory environment in WEMA partner countries
  • Identify potential challenges/issues likely to undermine regulatory approval process for WEMA activities.
  • Assist in the identification of training needs and ¡n organizing regulatory training for project partners as well as prepare resource materials (including training manuals, compliance handbooks and reference materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for use by WEMA project partners and stakeholders ¡n compliance trainings ¡n accordance with permit provisions.
  • Participate in planning, execution and monitoring of activities including workshops, study tours and internships for WEMA project partners and stakeholders.
  • Periodically collect and collate information for preparation of WEMA technical reports and participate in WEMA M&E activities to determine progress, challenges and lessons learnt.
  • Support the organisation of relevant WEMA project meetings, including; preparation of the agenda, background materials and in noting operational and strategic issues for follow-up.
  • Liaise with in-country WEMA teams during compilation and submission of regulatory dossier to regulatory authorities in search of permits and follow-up on permit approval requests and applications.
  • Build capacity of local communities, partners and staff on the logical framework, data management, data analysis, results oriented programming, report writing techniques and requirements for relevant donors and the program logic model for M&E developed by AATF called AMELIA for AATF Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, Improvement and Alignment (AMELIA) Framework,
Qualifications: Suitable candidates must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent in scientific discipline, at least five (5) years of relevant experience at the national or international level in managing regulatory affairs for crop-based technologies with hands-on experience in monitoring and evaluation of development projects, good communication and interpersonal skills. 

A working knowledge of French would be an added advantage.

Compensation and Tenure: AATF offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and a collegial and gender-sensitive working environment. The employment contract is for an initial period of 2 years, renewable subject to performance and availability of funding.

Over 3 years, the USDA - Kenya Semi-Arid Livestock Enhancement Support (K-SALES) Program will improve the competitiveness of the livestock value chain by increasing productivity and boost marketing and trade of live animals and meat (cattle and shoat) hides and skins value chains.

K- SALES interventions will increase the availability of quality enhancing inputs, technologies and services, while increasing adoption of improved livestock and farm management techniques. 

The project will also stimulate and leverage public and private investment in infrastructure and technologies through matching grants that strengthen vertical and horizontal linkages through capacity building and mentorships to improve linkages between buyers and sellers, buy-down risk of investment and reduce transaction costs in 6 Counties; namely Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta.

Tea Blending Supervisor
 
Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervision of day to day activities of blending to meet established processing and quality standards.

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain adequate raw material (tea) inventory.
  • Preparation of blend sheets as per approve production schedules.
  • Monitor blending operations to ensure accuracy and validate quality to approval standards.
  • Provide effective direction and coordination of blending activities in terms of product cost, material usage, equipment utilization and continuous improvement.
  • Observe compliance to manufacturing processes and plant safety.

ACDI / VOCA Community Investment Specialists Job in Kenya

Community Investment Specialists, Kenya 
We currently seek Community Investment Specialists for an ongoing, multi-year USAID-funded program focused on reducing poverty and hunger by improving the inclusiveness and competitiveness of the livestock value chain in Marsabit and Isiolo Counties in the arid lands of Kenya. 

This person will report to the Value Chain Investment Advisor for the project and will use community-driven, participatory approaches to provide technical input into the disbursement of Community Contracting Funds. 

This person will also serve as the primary linkage between communities in the assigned county and other value chain actors to identify innovative opportunties to facilitate behavior change among pastoralists, creating competitiveness and relevant linkages in the livestock sector, while helping position the pastoral communities to take advanatge of the new opportunies and ultimately accelarate economic growth. 

REGAL-AG will be recruiting one specialist to be based in Marsabit County.
 
Responsibilities
  • Review existing livestock value chain analyses and other available information on the market system for the three key livestock value chains under the REGAL-AG program in Marsabit on an ongoing basis to identify changes in the emerging opportunities and constraints
  • Identify and advise the Value Chain Investment Advisor on the development of innovative business plans, models and concepts that have the potential to increase access to markets
  • Support the Value Chain Investment Advisor in facilitating forward and backward linkages between rural livestock entrepreneurs, financial institutions and private investors to increase pastoralist’s financial capital, capacity and competitiveness
  • Identify capacity building needs of  producer groups, traders, private sector actors and other value chain actors and facilitate access to relevant trainings and support services as needed
  • Working collaboratively with other partners, facilitate  and implement co-management models in markets in the assigned county and build the capacities of the Livestock Marketing Associations to ensure effective, transparent, and fair governance and management of markets
  • Support project efforts to mobilize communities to identify priority upgrades to livestock market infrastructure that can be supported through the project’s Community Contracting Fund; serve as primary liaison with the communities throughout the infrastructure works to ensure activities are being implemented in line with communities’ needs and expectations
  • Create awareness on existing livestock investment opportunities and support livestock producers and traders to take advantage of the new opportunities (including increasing value and volume of livestock and livestock products for export markets)
  • Improve learning and adoption of appropriate technologies and practices, increase investment in upgrading using improved technology, improved genetic material, purchased services and improved products
  • Work closely with the Pastoral Policy Advisor and Gender Advisor to address market-related policy constraints and ensure gender issues are addressed throughout project activities
  • Work closely with the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Specialist and Communications and Knowledge Manager to capture, document and report community-driven market-related activities and success stories for internal and external learning purposes 
Qualifications
  • At least a degree related to  livestock, agriculture or economics
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, NGOs, research institutions)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across projects, to be flexible and creative
  • At least 8 years of professional experience working in livestock or agricultural development programs in the Horn of Africa, especially in the pastoral areas
  • At least 2 years’ experience in value chain development and enterprise development
