Over 3 years, the USDA - Kenya Semi-Arid Livestock Enhancement Support (K-SALES) Program will improve the competitiveness of the livestock value chain by increasing productivity and boost marketing and trade of live animals and meat (cattle and shoat) hides and skins value chains.

K- SALES interventions will increase the availability of quality enhancing inputs, technologies and services, while increasing adoption of improved livestock and farm management techniques. 

The project will also stimulate and leverage public and private investment in infrastructure and technologies through matching grants that strengthen vertical and horizontal linkages through capacity building and mentorships to improve linkages between buyers and sellers, buy-down risk of investment and reduce transaction costs in 6 Counties; namely Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta.

K-SALES is seeking expressions of interest from qualified and highly experienced firms, eligible local facilitators/consultancy firms, consortiums, NGOs, CBOs, training institutions, business associations, private sector business service providers, financial service providers and livestock sector stakeholders to indicate their interest to partner with us in implementing sustainable interventions in the livestock sector. 

Upcoming assignments will be tendered on a competitive basis to any organization that is pre-qualified with K-SALES. Successful applicants will be eligible to respond to bids issued by the program.

National Oil Corporation of Kenya (National Oil) invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from eligible firms for provision of a Retail Network Planning Software Solution.
 
The objective of this Expression of Interest is to shortlist eligible firms capable of providing a software solution that offers analysis of retail markets, market intelligence about petroleum retail outlets, consumer level data, best locations for new outlets, development of optimal network plans and identification of capital and operational opportunities.

Development of a KNLS Documentary
 
Introduction
 
Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) Board was established by an Act of Parliament Cap 225 of the Laws of Kenya (1965). 

The Act gives the Board responsibility to manage both the National Library of Kenya and the Public Library Service. 

To date, a network of 60 branch libraries have been established, with others coming up in different parts of the country.
 

Scope of Work
 
Development of a TV quality documentary that will detail the history of KNLS, major successes, milestones and achievement so far and the projected direction. 

The video documentary must be able to bring out the following objectives;
 
i) Effective Communication of the Documentary theme
 
ii) Telling the story of KNLS and the historical perspective
 
iii) Fundraising
 
iv) Showing the link between KNLS and vision 2030
 
v) Partnership and outcomes of various projects
 
vi) KNLS contribution towards Kenya at 50
 
vii) Awareness raising on the overall idea of fundraising and advocacy of the library for effective and sustainable national development of libraries
 
viii) Highlight the contribution of libraries to national development
 
ix) Build public awareness about libraries and their importance to the economy

Organization Overview
 
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a partnership of The Rockefeller Foundation, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development working with African governments, other donors, NGOs, the private sector and African farmers to significantly and sustainably improve the productivity and incomes of poor, smallscale farmers in Africa. 
AGRA is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and maintains offices in Accra, Ghana, Maputo, Mozambique, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Bamako, Mali and Juba, South Sudan. AGRA also undertakes policy advocacy and resource mobilization.
 
The Program for Africa’s Seeds Systems (PASS) is an AGRA initiative to improve food security and reduce poverty in Africa by promoting the development of seed delivery systems that allow small-scale farmers to gain access to improved, adapted crop varieties in an equitable and sustainable manner.
 
Main Objective: Assist in developing the ability of young, private, African seed companies to provide improved seeds to small-scale farmers in sixteen African countries on a sustainable basis
 
The consultant will be expected to provide the following services:
 
1. Provide business development consulting services to selected PASS grantees, and prospective AGRA-funded Investment Fund investees and assist startup and SME seed companies with the development of overall strategies for growth.
 
2. Work with seed companies to increase production, seed quality, marketing efficiency, accountability and profitability.
 
3. Train PASS Grantee seed company staff in specific areas of need including marketing, financial management, and strategy development.
 
4. Give seminars to seed company management teams on selected, specific subject matters of importance to the survival and growth of the firms.
 
5. Assist in delivering business development modules at the Seed Enterprise Management Institute, which will include a series of networking and educational opportunities for African private seed companies and seed producers, facilitating their ability to learn from each other and from outside experts.
 
6. Travel to seed company operations in up to 16 African countries to make on-site assessments and give recommendations on the effectiveness of seed company processes, including financial management, management of parental materials, certified seed production, management of out-grower
contracts, seed processing, packaging, warehousing, and marketing.
 
7. As requested by PASS:
 
i. Review and comment on proposals that have impact on seed systems and/or agribusiness capacity-building
 
ii. Assist SME seed companies with strategies for raising investment capital, including the development of business plans.
 
iii. Advise SME seed companies in forging beneficial partnerships.
 
iv. Advise SME seed companies in sourcing and possible purchase of various seed equipment, software, etc.
 
v. Represent PASS in some Forums
 
8. Report back to program managers regarding the effectiveness of individual seed companies as well as the overall seed program strategy.

Qualifications
  • Strong background in seed business, agribusiness, Agriculture or related qualification.
  • Practical experience in managing a seed business is strongly preferred.
  • Previous or current work on seed related activities in Africa is an added advantage.

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) seeks Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from suitably qualified companies to establish a contract for the Provision of Taxi Services.
 
Staff members of the United Nations Offices at Nairobi (UNON), United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and other UN agencies based at the UNON Gigiri compound require the provision of Taxi transport services for official use.
 
UNON intends to award a contract for a period of one (1) year with a possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance.

TechnoServe (TNS) Young Women in Enterprise Cases Study Expression of Interest

TechnoServe Background
 
TechnoServe (TNS) is a nonprofit international development organization founded in 1968.  

Its mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women break the cycle of poverty by building businesses that create jobs, income, and economic opportunities for their families, their communities, and their countries www.tns.org.

TechnoServe has been implementing the Young Women in Enterprise program since June 2006 with funding from the Nike Foundation.  

The program targets in-and-out of school girls aged 14-24 years.  Since its inception, YWE worked with over 4,000 girls in low income areas of Nairobi. Organized in enterprise clubs of 30-40 girls, participants are trained on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, life skills and employability. 

After training girls receive hands on support to start businesses, to open bank accounts and start savings and to find employment. 
 
Case study
 
The YWE program current funding is in the wrap up phase during which we are exploring multiple opportunities for funding to scale and replicate the program based on the lessons learnt. 

TechnoServe is currently documenting the YWE model to share knowledge with donors and stakeholders about girl programming, position ourselves as the go to organization on girl economic empowerment and to develop new partnerships and funding streams.  

To document the YWE model, TechnoServe is now searching for an organization or individual who will review and revise a comprehensive draft case study to be used for fundraising, dissemination of the model and to inform future girls programming. 

The draft case study has been reviewed and feedback received from internal TechnoServe reviewers and the donor for YWE.
 
Tasks
  1. Read draft case study and feedback received from the donor reviewers and in discussion with TechnoServe develop a work plan for refining the case study.
  2. Develop a persuasive storyline throughout the case study
  3. Clearly illustrate how the program activities and results impacted the program beneficiaries and their households and their communities, thus demonstrating the program significance to girls in Kenya. 
  4. Point out clearly  at least 3 key messages to get out to the audience( donors)
  5. Identify and develop powerful selected girl’s beneficiary profiles
  6. Identify and use best practice format for a captivating read by the intended audience. This will include working on graphics, design layout, high quality photographs and captions.
  7. Package the presentation for publication and website posting.
Deliverables
  1. A soft PDF copy of the YWE case study document that is printable and of a length of no more than 13 pages of A4 size or equivalent content material on or before 28th December 2012.
  2. Originals of all photos, graphics and captions developed for the case study

  • Brief proposal (no more than 6 pages) indicating your capability, proposed approach and itemized budget.
  • Detailed CVs of proposed lead consultant or project manager
  • Give at least three references

Expression of Interest: Development of Institutional Risk Management Framework

KASNEB was established by the Government of Kenya on 24 July 1969. The Accountants Act, Cap. 531 of the Laws of Kenya, which was enacted in July 1977, gave KASNEB retroactive recognition since its inception in1969.
 

The Accountants Act, Cap. 531 of the Laws of Kenya was repealed and replaced with the Accountants Act, No. 15 of 2008 which took effect from 30 December 2008. 

 

The Accountants Act, No. 15 of 2008 is buttressed by the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act, Cap. 534, which reaffirms KASNEB as the examining body for the Certified Public Secretaries (CPS) examination.


KASNEB administers five (5) professional and four (4) technician examinations which are held twice in a year; in May/June and November/December. The examinations are recognised worldwide and are benchmarked with international standards and best practice.
 

KASNEB wishes to invite reputable and competent consultancy firms to express interest in providing consultancy services to develop its Institutional Risk Management Framework.
 

Interested firms should provide information and documents indicating that they are qualified to provide the required services.

 

The information should include:

  1. The legal status of the firm (Enclose copy of Certificate of Incorporation/registration).
  2. Copy of valid Tax Compliance Certificate.
  3. VAT and PIN certificates.
  4. CVs of key staff members indicating academic and professional qualifications and membership to professional bodies.
  5. A brief profile of the firm, indicating relevant experience with details of similar assignments undertaken to demonstrate ability and capacity to carry out this assignment (please provide references from at least five reputable organisations where you have provided similar services).

This is not a Request for Proposals. 

 

The Expressions of Interest will be reviewed and a shortlist of the most appropriately qualified firms will be prepared and the firms will be invited to submit their Technical and Financial Proposals through a Letter of Invitation that will include the specific Terms of Reference.

Tullow Oil Expression of Interest for Oil Spill Contingency Plan

Tullow Oil plc is a large independent oil and gas exploration company and is a constituent of the London FTSE100. 

The Group has over 85 licenses in more than 20 countries, with operations in Africa, Europe, South Asia and South America.

Tullow Kenya B.V., a subsidiary of Tullow Oil plc, is the operator in six license Blocks in Northern and Western Kenya. 

Over the coming years Tullow is carrying out an intensive exploration and appraisal program with multiple drilling rigs.
 
In support of the expanding activities Tullow Kenya B.V. invites Expression of Interests from reputable Kenyan registered consultancy companies to provide further Oil Spill Contingency Response Services, which will initially include:
  • Maintenance of the Tullow Kenya Oil Spill Contingency Plan for future activities in accordance to regulations, Tullow guidelines and international best practices
  • Provision of oil and chemical spill response equipment for Tier 1 and 2
  • Provision of oil and chemical spill response services as and when required

Agricultural Finance Corporation Baseline Surveys Consultancy Jobs


The Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) is a Development Finance Institution (DFI), whose mandate is to offer short, medium and long-term finance to the agricultural community. 

The Corporation invites Expression of Interest (EOI) for Consultancy Services as below:-
 
1. AFC/EOI/2/2011-2012 – Carrying out a Baseline Survey on Alcohol and Drug Abuse
 
Expected Output
 
(i) understand the problem of alcohol and drug abuse amongst AFC employees;
 
(ii) establish the prevalence of different drugs and substances of abuse amongst AFC employees;
 
(iii) document the level of drug and substance abuse among AFC employees;
 
(iv) analyse AFC’s capacity in addressing drug and substance abuse among its employees at the workplace;
 
(v) propose an effective strategy for addressing the challenge of drug and substance abuse at the workplace.
 
2. AFC/EOI/2/2012 – Carrying out a Baseline Survey on Gender Mainstreaming
 
Expected Output
 
(i) establish the presence of gender discrimination in AFC;
 
(ii) establish the gender gap in AFC in all levels, i.e. top, middle & lower management levels;
 
3. AFC/EOI/2/2012 – Carrying out a Baseline Survey on Persons with Disability
 
Expected Output
 
(i) establish the presence of persons with disability in AFC, i.e. has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities;
 
(ii) Understand whether one has a record of such impairment;
 
(iii) Establish whether one is regarded as having such impairment (even in the absence of an actual disability);
 
(iv) Establish the presence of discrimination against persons with disability in AFC.
 
The assignment for the surveys will cover full time employees of the AFC, both at headquarters and field operation levels across the country.
 
Eligible Consultancy firms with relevant experience are invited to express their interest for provision of the above mentioned consultancy services. 

The bids from interested and reputable firms should include but not limited to the following:-

The firm should not be insolvent, in receivership, bankrupt or in the process of being wound-up and should not be a subject of legal proceedings. It should not be limited or disqualified under any of the provisions of the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005 and Public Procurement and Disposal Regulations, 2006.
 
The Corporation will evaluate and prepare a shortlist of firms to whom requests for proposal (RFP) will be sent. 

All participants will be provided with feedback after the evaluation.

The Expression of Interest (EOI) will be opened thereafter in the presence of applicants or their representatives who choose to attend at Development House, Conference Room, located on 3rd Floor, on the same day.
 
The list of the shortlisted firms will be maintained in the Agricultural Finance Corporation Database but will not constitute contractual obligation with any party.
