Care International Nutrition Supervisor Job in Garowe, Puntland

National Position
 
CARE is an International NGO working in Somalia. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, through its strategic goal to reduce poverty by empowering women, enhancing access to resources and services, and improving governance. 

CARE is looking for suitable candidates to fill the positions of Nutrition Supervisor based in Garowe, Puntland with frequent travels and support to project sites in South Somalia (mainly Lower Juba and Mogadishu).
 
Job Summary: The Nutrition supervisor will oversee the day to day implementation of all aspects of emergency nutrition activities including running of curative programs (SC/OTP/SFP), community mobilization, IYCF, micronutrient supplementation, needs assessments, program reporting and devise new interventions as deemed necessary. 

S/he will be required to provide nutrition technical back stopping to CARE and partner staff through capacity building initiatives to staff as well as the community at large. 

The incumbent will also be required to create working synergy between the nutrition component and other emergency projects for proper utilization of resources at the field office. 

S/he will need to respond to immediate nutrition issues with simultaneous consideration of medium and long term needs and opportunities. 

S/he will be required to make regular monitoring efforts and periodic visits to all emergency nutrition project field sites (Puntland and Lower Juba) on regular basis.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
1. Program management and implementation
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise in nutrition assessments during emergency response and ensure that nutrition program is linked to other emergency response components.
  • Design, implement and analyze food and nutrition related needs assessment for under-fives, pregnant and lactating women within and outside CARE program areas.
  • Analyze need for target support to infant and young child feeding and if appropriate organize support in coordination with local partners and volunteers
  • Work with CARE and partner staff to develop a sustainable community based programs for addressing direct, underlying and basic causes of malnutrition
  • Represent CARE International in Somalia in all matters related to nutrition in the assigned program location while liaising with partners, donors, governments and NGOs at field
  • Participate in establishing funding requirements for nutrition interventions and contribute to the development of proposals and concept notes for emergency response
  • Plan and manage the nutrition programme in a phased and prioritized manner with full consultation and coordination with Care staff and other agencies both governmental and no governmental organizations
  • Integrate M&E systems to support beneficiaries accountability , donor reporting, performance metrics and organizational learning
2. Program Design
  • Work in close collaboration with the Nutrition Technical Manager and the broader country office programmes to ensure that emergency nutrition interventions build upon longer term programming
  • Provide up to date nutrition data and information necessary for development of high quality programs
3. Reporting
  • Responsible for quality production of monthly program performance and IYCF reports from all nutrition program areas.
  • Responsible for undertaking reporting of nutrition assessment and other related periodic studies such as KAP surveys.
  • Support nutrition technical manager in development of donor reports
4. Representation
  • Participate in all filed level cluster and technical working group coordination meetings
  • Represent CARE in all inter agency nutrition assessments
5. Capacity building
  • Organize and provide trainings to partner staff, health workers and nutrition volunteers on nutrition related issues.
  • Provide in house capacity building to CARE program staff on aspects related to food security and nutrition integration.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree in Nutrition, Public Health or other closely related fields
  • At least 3 years progressive experience in managing programs in conflict situations
  • Experience in setting up and running of CMAM program
  • Experience in devising and implementing IYCF interventions
  • Experience in planning and execution of SMART surveys as well as data management using relevant software.
  • Experience in proposal development and donor reporting
  • Experience organizing and facilitating training
  • Excellent communication skills-written and spoken
  • Fluency in English and Somali
  • Strong interpretation skills, creativity , flexibility, adaptability and empathy
  • Ability to plan and facilitate health based curriculum trainings/ workshop

Job Purpose

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology (Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronic) or Equivalent from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing plant working in an engineering   leadership position.
  • Working knowledge of ISO systems and TPM as well as knowledge of local OHS Act requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

  • Be the key field based representative for all social investment activities.

Responsibilities:
 
Social Investment (SI) & Community Development
  • Work closely with the Field Supervisor Stakeholder Engagement (FSSE), the Field Social Performance Manager and Social Investment Manager to ensure that grassroots social interventions and investment programmes are aligned to key operational risks, impacts, community development requirements and Tullow’s Social Investment Standards.
  • Take a leadership role in stakeholder engagement, identifying community needs/issues in order to advise on social investment so that Social Investment projects/initiatives can both help to manage social impacts and meet community aspirations.
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement process results in appropriate participation and sustainability of projects by securing stakeholder “buy in” from project concept design through to implementation and exit.
  • Work closely with implementing partners to design, develop and drive community Social Investment activities in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Support the collation of baseline data and work of specialist consultants as requested to ensure desired outcomes are met.

Requirements
  • Degree qualification in Humanities / Social Science / Arts. 
  • Three years previous experience working within a community development / social performance role (potentially within a NGO / CSO environment).
  • Previous exposure to technical aspects of community needs assessment, stakeholder engagement / participatory community engagement processes would be desirable.
  • Experience within a marginalized community environment would be desirable.
  • Experience working in Turkana and knowledge of local languages is a strong advantage
  • Experience in developing and executing social investment and community development projects at a grassroots level is essential.
  • Familiar with relevant international guidelines on investment (IPIECA, IFC, ICMM etc).
  • Proficient in basic project management.
  • Ability to implement strategies (including key stakeholder engagement) to secure desired outcomes and support objectives.

  • Maintain systems that ensure conformance of finished product to statutory, local regulatory requirements and Mars product specifications as well as identifying improvements to the existing Quality and food safety system by updating the system accordingly.
  • Appointed Food safety team leader managing the food safety and internal audit teams by organizing their work according to Mars QMP and ISO 22000 standard listed roles as well as coordination of external audit activities.
  • Ensure relevant training and education of the food safety team members, internal audit team and all associates on relevant Quality Management Process procedures, work closely with commercial function to ensure factory conformance to Material Quality Management systems and Supplier Quality Assurance.
  • Ensure that Good Hygiene/Manufacturing Practice (GMP/GHP) is implemented at the site and extended to visitors and contractors. The scope of implementation should be monitored and reported using appropriate data analysis techniques and that improvement opportunities are developed and implemented.
  • Ensure that all infrastructural improvements and new installations (machines, plants and infrastructure) undergo Good Hygiene Practices and Food safety clearance before use for production.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from a recognized University.
  • Solid knowledge and at least 5 years’ experience in food safety management systems (ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000, GMP and Food safety pre-requisite programs).

2. Quality Assurance System Specialist
 
Job Purpose Statement: The position holder shall be responsible for supporting specific Quality and food safety systems programs including Facility Document and record control, Material quality management at receiving, pest control and systems verification within the Factory as well as implementation, training, verification, auditing and follow up of preventive and corrective actions in the site.
 
Reporting to: Quality Assurance Manager and dotted line report to Quality Assurance System Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the facility’s Supplier Quality management program by ensuring all material into the facility meets facility receiving requirements, is tested and released for production in line with Mars Quality Management System while ensuring that deviations are reported, documented and approved as necessary according to the Change Tracking System.
  • Monitor shelf life of ingredients and packaging materials and take necessary action to ensure material released to production meets corporate and regulatory specifications as well as ensuring all routine and non-routine testing of ingredients, environmental monitoring and water according to corporate and regulatory requirements including skip lot sampling and testing.
  • Training of associates, contractors and visitors on applicable procedures and work instructions according to training program and as need arises.
  • Preparation of shipment samples, documentation, booking in the relevant sample submission records and maintaining communication with external testing parties till results are received by the factory.
  • Ensure the implementation of the document and records control system according to corporate and regulatory requirements in the company and ensure that appropriate documents and records are maintained and updated as necessary, available at point of use and that corrective actions on the same are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a database of all packaging artwork and ensure that all new artwork meets specifications and undergoes approval according to artwork approval procedure.
  • Responsible for control of potentially nonconforming ingredient and packaging material by labelling, segregating, blocking in SAP, communication to internal customers, escalation, including processing approval record for material destruction.
  • Management of the pest control program.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Food Science and Technology from a recognized Institution.
  • Solid knowledge and at least 2 years’ experience in food safety management systems (ISO22000, HACCP and GMP).

Save the Children Staff Debriefing and Counselors Supervision Consultancy Opportunity in Daadab Kenya

Terms of Reference

Role: Staff Debriefing and Counsellor Supervision Consultant
 
Duration: 4 days (between 4th to 7th November 2013)
 
Child Protection Level: Level 3
 
Background
 
Save the Children has been operational in the Dadaab refugee camps since 2007 when a child protection programme was established. 

The programme is now one of Save the Children’s largest child protection programmes globally. 

The programme provides and supports holistic and comprehensive social welfare support to children within four of the refugee camps and the local host community, as well as integrating informal education and livelihood support. 

Services provided include: individual support to vulnerable children and carers from case workers, placement of unaccompanied children into foster care, resettlement to third countries, psychological counselling, referral to other services (notably education and livelihood-support) and liaison with statutory duty bearers such as the police and District Children’s Officer as well as UNHCR and other humanitarian agencies, and local leaders.  

Support is also provided to local, community-based child protection structures such as child welfare committees, child education and welfare centres and children’s clubs. 

As such the Save the Children team come into contact with and support children who experience a range of protection concerns including sexual and gender-based violence and abuse, neglect and abuse within homes and communities, commercial exploitation, and direct experience of conflict. 

The Save the Children child protection team has 104 staff members and includes Child Protection managers and coordinators, case workers, community outreach staff, paediatric and lay counsellors. 

As a result of this regular exposure to accounts of abuse, distress and trauma, Save the Children has committed to provide regular staff debriefing and counsellors supervision in an effort to alleviate burn outs and secondary trauma as well as increasing staffs effectiveness and wellbeing. 

Save the Children is seeking a consultant counsellor to conduct debriefing for staff over four days. 

The Consultant Counsellor will travel to Dadaab and back by air and will spend four days residing in the Dadaab Save the Children compound, in full adherence to Save the Children’s Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy, Data Protection and Information Sharing Protocol and Safety and Security Rules. 

The Counselling Consultant will also liaise with the Save the Children’s National Child Protection Advisor who will conduct regular group discussions with staff regarding specific protection concerns they are addressing. 
 
Deliverables
 
Save the Children is seeking the services of a specialist in Counselling Supervision, Individual Counselling and Group debriefing for Dadaab child protection programme team including the Counsellors as follows:-
  • Provision of group debriefing for case workers and community outreach staffs (72staffs) - 2 days.
  • Provision of one-on- one Supervision sessions with the four Paediatric and lay Counsellors to support them in their technical functions as specialized counsellors in Garissa (1 day).
  • Provision of group debriefing and individual counselling for officers, coordinators and managers (32 staffs) in Garissa (1 day).
  • Provision of a two-page report on the visit covering any challenges faced by the consultant, general challenges of staff that can be shared for follow up, key observations and requirements for future visits or recommendations for Save the Children’s support to the Counsellors (one morning – morning includes return travel to Nairobi).
Total number of days: 4 working days, half day travel x2.
 
Requirements
 
Essential
  • Training and experience in the provision of counselling supervision 
  • Extensive training and experience in the provision of psychotherapy to children and their families
  • High capacity in building trust and rapport on an individual basis and in groups working together in teams under high stress
  • Extensive experience in the provision of psychotherapy to caregivers working with children experiencing abuse
  • Understanding of the stresses of working in remote, insecure and hostile environments, such as Dadaab
  • Demonstrated competence working across Kenyan dynamic cultures, as well as age and gender barriers, and accommodating for these dynamics during group sessions
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili
  • Strong sense of professionalism and observance of counselling ethics
  • Must be an accredited counsellor in Kenya (Kenya Counsellors and Psychologist Association-KCPA former KCA) and a post graduate degree holder.
Desirable
  • Direct experience in child protection and gender-based violence programming
  • Appreciation of the importance of community and child participation when working to create behaviour change, raise awareness and protect children
  • Understanding of the importance and means of ensuring accountability to beneficiaries during programming
  • Experience working in North Eastern Province or with Somali communities
  • Previous experience working with Save the Children

Human Resources Assistant
This is a tremendous role for someone with an interest in the twin dynamics of HR and restaurant business. 

The successful applicant will provide administrative support for the HR Department.

S/he will be computer literate with excellent communication skills and a team player.

Stewards & Bussers

We look for stewards and bussers who are diligent, hands-on, and trustworthy when it comes to all tasks. This is a vital role in the Nairobi Java House set up. 

Stewards and Bussers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the restaurant, dishwashing, stocking dishes, glassware and food items for the cooks and servers, bussing tables and responding quickly to situations that arise. 

Many of our Managers started in this department and it is an honorable entry point for those developing careers in the hospitality industry.
 
No prior experience required, only secondary school education and a positive attitude.

As a 24/7 operation, we are looking to have drivers who are willing to work both day and night shifts for deliveries and staff movement. 

S/he must also have not less than 5 years similar experience with a clean driving record, and not less than one full year driving experience for a Mombasa based company. 

Successful candidates will be required to present a valid certificate of good conduct at the interview.
