Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architect, Design, Development & Implementation of framework and application software components
  • The role requires them to be an operational/process expert with extreme knowledge of the business processes within the Bank/ Insurance firm and should have been part of that team from a functional standpoint

Chief Risk Officer (CRO)
 
Job Summary: As a member of the senior management team, the Chief Risk Officer ( CRO ) is responsible for facilitating the execution of the Enterprise-wide Risk Management (ERM) framework in the Bank. 

The position holder is expected to lead and own the Bank’s risk strategy and is expected to drive various risk management initiatives covering numerous risk areas commensurate with the Bank’s risk appetite.
 
Under the direct supervision of the President & CEO of the Bank, The CRO is also expected to 
  • define, implement and monitor the Bank’s ERM framework and internal controls as well as set guidelines for the development of supporting policies and procedures;
  • establish an efficient and effective control environment to monitor risk; 
  • oversee and enforce risk management policies to close gaps in risk capabilities; 
  • monitor the Bank’s compliance with risk management regulatory provisions; 
  • ensure prompt reporting of risk exposures and provide advice on resolution, in line with best practices.
Job Specifications:
  • A Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance or Economics with a relevant professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CISA; certified risk and compliance accreditations shall have added advantage;
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant professional experience in risk management and risk supervision in financial institutions; experience with accounting and risk management in banks and financial institutions such as pension funds and insurance companies will have added advantage;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ERM concepts, financial systems and process audit and thorough knowledge of regional and international financial service industry dynamics including regulations, legislations and operating environment;
  • Ability to think strategically and appreciate the systemic impact of policies, issues and solutions on ERM;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct reviews and development of policies and procedures and align them with best practices including IFRS, Basel rules and other statutes;
  • Robust analytical and interpreting skills on exposures data and problem solving skills;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills with ability to work in a multicultural setting;
  • Language proficiency in English and or French, ideally bi-lingual (English / French).

Gulf African Bank Legal Officer, Information Security Officer and Takaful Principal Officer Jobs in Nairobi Kenya

1. Legal Officer
Job Ref: HR-LO-07-13

Reporting to the Head of Legal, the holder will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing and vetting demand letters, statutory notices, pleadings, affidavits and other relevant litigation documents
  • Drafting and reviewing templates, standard forms, service level agreements, contracts, security documents and other relevant documents;
  • Providing guidance on the Bank’s Litigation matters;
  • Liaising with the Bank's Legal service providers and ensuring external legal activities in regard to litigation and recoveries are coordinated and effectively;
  • Undertaking legal research and writing legal opinions on case law affecting the operations of the Bank;
  • Reviewing legislation;
  • Managing litigation records and regular review of litigation matters;
  • Collating evidence and documentation in regard to litigation; as well as preparation of witness statements; and
  • Assisting the Head of Legal with other assigned duties.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Have a law degree from a recognized University and current practicing certificate;
  • Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience preferably in a reputable law firm acting for banks/financial institutions;
  • Have litigation experience and particularly in debt collection and recoveries, employment matters, and general commercial and civil litigation
  • Have some basic experience in conveyancing and commercial practice;
  • Have knowledge of the workings of the Court Registries; and
  • Should have excellent organizational skills and analytical & computer skills.
2. Information Security Officer
Ref: HR-ISO-07-13

Reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing continuous independent assurance on the bank’s information security as regards confidentiality, integrity and availability of the IT infrastructure, processing systems and related resources in line with the Information Security Policy as well as assisting in ensuring that IT systems, infrastructure and processes are in compliance with the set standards and policies. 
The key result areas of this position will include:
  •  Develop and maintain the Bank’s Information Security Policy framework and Governance structure in line with best market practice and CBK Regulations.
  • Carry out Information Security reviews along the various phases of projects lifecycles as detailed in the bank’s Project Management framework.
  • Manage the implementation of IS into the day-to-day operations and culture of the Business.
  • Provide interpretation of the Information Security policies to the Business.
  • Ensure information security solutions are consistent with the Information Security Policies &Standards and corporate architectural directions/directives and oversee deployment.
  • Lead business in development of corrective action plans as a result of gap assessment findings, and/or technical security assessment results.
  • Carry out risk assessment of the information assets of the organization. Recommend controls in light of the value vs. threat vs. vulnerability vs. cost.
  • Assist with ongoing investigations into the abuse of systems and infrastructure as and when mandated by the Head of Risk.
  • Participate in the design, set up, implementation and testing business continuity and disaster recovery installations within the bank
Knowledge and skills:
  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a Business related field.
  • Certified Information Security Manager Certification (Required)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor Certification (Preferred).
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (Preferred)
  • 3 years banking experience in information technology control or related field within a large and highly computerized environment.
  • Good understanding of Information Security and control objectives.
3. Principal Officer - GAB Takaful

The Bank, is in the process of opening a Takaful (Insurance) Agency and requires services of the Principal Officer. 
Reporting to the Head of Risk the successful candidate will be responsible for :-
  • The day to day management of the agency:
  • Development and Implementation of GAB Takaful Agency policies and procedures
  • Development of business plans and budget for the agency
  • Source and secure new business for the agency.
  • Build and manage the customer portfolio for the agency
  • Submit quotations to new clients and follow them up.
  • Respond to customer enquiries.
  • Handle all customer insurance claims processes
  • Handle all Insurance administrative and documentation duties.
Knowledge and Skills:

Banking Operations Supervisor.

Working closely with the Branch Manager, the job holder will be responsible for day-to-day operations and administration of branch operations and service delivery, ensuring strict compliance with internal policies and procedures and also ensuring high levels of customer service within the banking hall in line with the customer service standards and guidelines as communicated from time to time

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as primary custodian of internal controls with responsibility for compliance to the internal controls at the branch
  • Responsible to ensure that customer service standards and guidelines as communicated from Head Office are embedded in the branch - Plan, organize, monitor and control the day-to-day services offered by tellers and the customer service staff to ensure that timely delivery of the services to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Supervise the performance of tellers and branch customer service staff to ensure optimum productivity and high quality customer service in order to provide a range of general banking services to customers so as to achieve the goals of the branch
  • Review and authorize internal entries and customer transactions requiring Supervisor over-ride per delegated authority and in line with laid down policy and procedures.
  • Prompt resolution of issues raised through internal audit team or quality assurance teams
  • Work with the Branch Manager and ensure that overdrawn accounts (where any) are regularized within shortest possible time
  • As a member of Branch credit committee (BCC), ensure that the credit policies and procedures are adhered to when discharging BCC responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Anti-Money Laundering/KYC requirements are strictly adhered to by all branch staff at all times
  • Contribute to branch cost management (to ensure acceptable cost to income ratio)
  • Ensure dormant accounts are reviewed daily and, work with the Branch Manager and other branch staff to ensure appropriate follow ups
  • Responsible for cash and security documents as a joint custodian of the vault ensuring that the optimum cash balance is maintained at all times and Cash-In-Transit costs are minimized.
  • Responsibility to ensure that branch risk management reports are reviewed per stipulated frequencies/timelines
  • Work with the Branch Manager to develop, train branch staff on internal controls and customer service and also motivate all direct reports
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor degree in a business related field
  • A thorough understanding branch operations procedures especially transaction processing procedures
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience as a Teller and Customer Advisor.

The Position
 
Reporting to the Senior Manager, County Government, Government & Institutional Banking Unit, will be the liaison between county government (as corporate liability customers) and the Bank, to market for county liability business for the Bank, identify value chain opportunities at the county, retention of existing business and growth of Corporate Liabilities for the bank to maximize the Bank’s revenue.
 
Key responsibilities
  • Grow the existing liabilities business portfolio in the bank.
  • To maintain close relationship between the bank and its corporate liability customers at the county.
  • Identify new business opportunity for devolved funds.
  • To introduce new banking products to address customer’s ever changing banking needs.
  • Improve customer service delivery.
  • Be involved in product development of Institutional Banking, Cash management products etc
  • Determine target market clients that KCB wants to market and make customer visits to ensure that they are happy with our products and solve complaints that may arise.
  • Maintain an equitable balance between risk and return/revenue and work to establish broad based relationships at the county.
  • Develop and maintain business value chains critical to funds flow retention

  • Ensure quality service delivery to customers.
The Person
  • A university degree preferably in a business related discipline.
  • Possession of professional qualifications/post graduate degree will be an added advantage.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in General banking, and 2 of which must be in Relationship management and marketing of banks’ products with emphasis on service delivery.
  • Working knowledge of Trade Finance and Asset Finance.
