Duties and Responsibilities

Based in Dagahaley Refugee Camp

Project Summary:  
 
The objective of our project is to provide primary and secondary level of health care to the Refugees in Dagahaley refugee camp.  MSF provides a full package of medical care through 4 primary health care units and 1 hospital (100 beds) with 24 hour emergency and OT.

Health services include curative, preventative, nutritional activities and emergency preparedness and intervention with partners.

Contract duration: 6 months fixed term contract with possibility of extension based on performance.

Main tasks:

  • Assess the training needs related to quality of care in the project in collaboration with the Medical Team Leader
  • Ensure that the training memory program and training material resource centre are well maintained and updated
  • Advice the project team concerning methodology of teaching and pedagogy
  • Analyze feasibility and establish medical training activities in collaboration with the Medical Team Leader

Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS) is a non-profit organization with its headquarters in Kisumu dedicated to improving reproductive health of men and women. NRHS has several research projects related to HIV prevention and reproductive health. 

 
It runs support groups for PLWHA and Key Populations, and is working with the Ministry of Health to scale up male circumcision for HIV prevention. NRHS wishes to recruit a clinician with research experience to be in charge of its research program and to provide technical assistance with program activities.

Job Description:

Job Description:

Purpose
: The Lab Technician will be based at UNIM Clinic Laboratory in Kisumu to receive, verify and analyze specimens, record results on appropriate forms and report results promptly to the clinical staff. 
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimens for tests.
  • Assist in collecting and performing quantitative and qualitative laboratory analysis of blood, serum, urine and other biological specimens from study patients.
  • Laboratory assay tests will include, but not be limited to: light microscopy, culture, antibody testing, specimen staining.
  • Keep proper and clear documents of tests performed and results as per protocol.
  • Record test results in research study databases.
  • In partnership with the procurement and stores, manage the consumables and equipment inventory and place timely orders for re-stocking of necessary items.

Position:  Nurse Counselors (2 positions)

Location
: Kisumu

Reporting to:  Study Coordinator

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Screen and enroll eligible women at the antenatal clinic
  • Ensure proper administration of consent procedures
  • Administer screening and enrollment questionnaires to participants
  • Utilize Open Data Kit (ODK) on mobile phones to complete data collection
  • Ensure that data are collected accurately and resolve any discrepancies
  • Perform follow-up visits with participants in clinic setting
  • Perform HIV rapid testing and counseling for adult participants
  • Collect uncontaminated blood samples from infants on filter paper for HIV testing

GA Insurance Nursing Officer (Health Division) Job in Kenya


Title: Nursing Officer (Health Division)
 
Reports to: Head of Health Division
 
Job Summary: The jobholder will be responsible for Claims Processing, Hospitals undertakings and Visits, Customer Care, credit vetting and control and bills reconciliation and approval as per the company policy guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Keying of claims – both reimbursement and credit.
  • Vetting of claims, checking on what is payable and not payable, either due to the nature of illness or mode of treatment or payment within the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentist Board guidelines.
  • Assisting colleagues on interpreting and processing of claims i.e. ensuring diagnosis is within medical insurance cover and diagnosis matches treatment offered.
  • Liaise with doctors, brokers and clients at large for patient admissions.
  • Advise members on how best to utilize their benefits by recommending cheaper facilities and cheaper options e.g. maternity packages, chronic management facilities.
  • Advising doctors on referral of patients with chronic illness to cheaper facilities.
  • Capping/reviewing of undertaking through advise through letters to providers where and when necessary to avoid exceeded limits and hospitals/doctors taking advantages.
  • Sending undertakings to providers within the timelines.
  • Go through pre-authorization forms and scrutinize forms especially for clear diagnosis management and nature of treatment.  Requesting for further information/medical reports where treatment needs.
  • Nurturing a good relationship with doctors, hospitals, brokers and other service providers.
  • Patient visits for psychological support and ensuring they are receiving proper medical treatment.
  • Updating providers with current list of members covered, those who have exceeded limits and not to access services.
  • Arrange for health talks / cover review and ways of reducing over usage for clients.
  • Come up with a sufficient and efficient credit panel for our entire clientele.
  • Ensure all credit providers are kept in check and ensuring smooth relationship between our credit panel and ourselves.
  • Provider reconciliation and liaise with brokers on where member accessed service not authorized which needs to be paid to providers.
  • Sending invoices of exceeded limits to Brokers / Companies for payment.

Jacaranda Health is a new venture that aims to set a new standard for maternity care in East Africa. 

We are combining business and clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health services to low-income urban women.

Job Description
 
Jacaranda recently opened our first maternity hospital on the Eastern Bypass just before Ruiru town; we also operate mobile clinic services providing antenatal care at community sites around northeastern Nairobi. 

We plan further expansion in Nairobi later this year.

We seek nurse aides with good experience in maternal health and a strong commitment to providing friendly and respectful care to all women. 

They will work in our maternity and mobile clinic to support our nurses in providing care. 

Along with their routine duties, the nurse aides will have the opportunity to work with new technologies and quality improvement techniques, and work with clinicians and advisors at the forefront of maternal health. 

It is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, and to receive mentorship in a clinical setting.
                                                                   
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist nurses to provide comprehensive antenatal care, postnatal care, and family planning for mothers and mothers-to-be in Jacaranda’s mobile clinic
  • Provide friendly, helpful service to all patients
  • Provide health education to women awaiting appointments
  • Observe patients, identify emergency signs, and assist nurses in treating or referring these cases
  • Work closely with the Jacaranda Health team to identify and implement opportunities to improve clinical quality
  • Carry out routine duties including: assisting in taking observations, recording patient data, bedmaking, cleaning in a maternity setting, bathing of patients, serving patients food, etc.
  • Any other duties as required 
Desired Qualifications
 
The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Nurse Aide certificate from a recognized institution
  • At least 2-3 years of clinical experience, preferably working in a maternity ward
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and empathy; equally comfortable providing     one-on-one counseling and presenting birth-preparedness education to groups
  • A commitment to providing world-class care, and the curiosity and commitment to excellence needed for continuous quality improvement
  • Excellent analytical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively with a team in a culturally diverse environment
  • Willingness to work night shifts as needed
  • A good understanding of community dynamics in Eastern Nairobi
