Vacancy: Agriculture, Permaculture & Environment Officer

Purpose of the Job

 
To assist the PLWHA in East Kano Community to meet the World Health Organization Goals through facilitation of Agriculture, Permaculture & Environment programs using integrated community development initiatives within the community.

Minimum Qualification and Requirements
  • Diploma in agriculture / teaching / community development studies or a Permaculture Design Certificate;
  • High level of skills in project planning and management, demonstrated skills in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines;
  • Strong communication, analytical and report writing skills with fluency in spoken and written English;
  • Knowledge and skills in computing;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skill in working with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Outgoing personality with excellent teaching skills;
  • Commitment to SEP vision and mission;
Terms of Employment
 
Salary of 15,000 Ksh Per Month - consolidated 

Three month probation period after which you will be assessed based on the performance before confirmation of a one year contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of fundraising proposals for APE based projects including infrastructure.
  • Manage the day to day design and coordination of APE initiative workshops in adult & child dialogue format;
  • Write monthly stories about the development of the APE initiatives in East Kano.
  • Facilitate effective participation of children, families, communities & stakeholders in APE program activities.
  • Create community awareness on sustainable agriculture in addressing food security.
  • Prepare monthly reports and budgets on APE activities.
  • Assist local education institutions to develop and implement APE plans including Kitchen Gardens.
  • Partner with SEP Health Department to provide health education including Nutrition and Natural medicine.
  • Develop participatory training programs in accordance with the needs of the community.
  • Prepare annual training budget needs for the community.
  • Promote the use of Permaculture and organic techniques and Integrated pest and disease management.
  • Ensure that agricultural activities being implemented by the community are sustainable.
  • Facilitate project design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in APE
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and networks at District and Village levels.
  • Help to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual statistical, narrative and other APE reports as required.

Position: Safety, Health, Environment & Quality Officer

Location:

Job Summary

Develop, Monitor and co-ordinate all Safety, Health and Environmental policies, procedures & activities so as to ensure compliance with all relevant legal, Quality Management System and COMPANY requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Continuously develop, implement and review safety, health and environment Standards & procedures in conjunction with the Workshop Manager, in line with the Occupational Safety & Health Act 2007 and other Statutory requirements
  • Identify health, safety and environmental hazards, investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventative action, and report to the management
  • Conduct reviews on service station performance, compliance with set standards and documenting the same
  • Provide training instructions and workshops to all employees and subcontractors on safety, health and environment, with emphasis on continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate training records for the same
  • Conducting inspections and audits including monitoring and tracking of all SHE related issues and Quality Management issues
  • Ensure that all facilities are in compliance with statutory requirements, Quality Management Systems and other internal policies
  • Liaise with the Workshop Manager, schedule for internal audits and monitor corrective action for deficient findings for completion & effectiveness, providing gap closure assistance
  • Proactively identify emerging issues in Safety, Health and environment Management system
  • Liaise with the Workshop Manager to ensure all statutory audits are carried out and licenses issued
  • Liaise with the Directorate of Occupational Safety & Health & other SHE practitioners to ensure our SHE practices are up to date
  • Maintain database of all safety incidences and accidents
  • Prepare weekly & monthly reports on all SHE related issues
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Management from time to time
Qualifications
  • Degree/Higher Diploma in any Business related field
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
  • ISO Standards Training and Lead auditor Training
  • Four (4) years progressive work experience, two (2) of which should be in the same position.
  • Experience in ISO implementation
  • Experience in Bulk Logistics of fuel, Jet A1 and Dry cargo is a MUST
  • Experience in Dangerous Goods Handling is also a MUST
  • DOSH and NEMA Certification will be an added advantage
  • Analytical problem solving
  • Team player
  • Excellent supervisory skills

The Environmental Projects Coordinator will manage and develop corporate partnerships in order to maximize income through charity fundraising, gift in kind, promotional and advertising opportunities whilst ensuring that the objectives of both client and organization are fulfilled.

Alongside assisting to organize other mass participation events, you will manage the organization's local Marathons. The environment in which the successful Events coordinator will be working is fast paced, team focused and hardworking with an ethos of those who give their all. The Environmental Projects Coordinator will assist in appearance management, public relations, sponsorship development, publicity, as well as charity or event planning for local and national titleholder of a major national pageant. 

Specifically, she will work together with the national titleholder as a chaperone and as talent support. She will help her in all activities including red carpet, volunteer community service and corporate appearance opportunities both in Nairobi and nationwide.

Key responsibilities will include:

Event planning, marketing and promotion for celebrations (welcome, farewells send offs and crownings, etc.) environmental days, eco fashion shows, corporate outreach dinners or breakfast and and build high profile
community fundraising activities.

You will act as a marketing support resource in developing and executing strategies to generate awareness, interest and excitement among key stakeholder groups.

Manage and run a number of events and community strategies and campaigns Schedule interviews, handle public relations tasks and help to increase the popularity of the organization.

Use creative and engaging methods of communication including pre-event and post-event activities executing your fundraising or sponsorship plans by contacting the right people

Ensure senior level contact with corporate partners’ management teams to galvanize relationships and cultivate new opportunities and long term relationships between the organizations.

Essential Work Skills
  • You should be cool under pressure in order to manage crises, financially savvy and socially perceptive.
  • Confident, resilient, creative, and must be excellent communicator.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills to find the titleholder best roles and deals. You should possess the stamina to work long and odd hours and spend a lot of time on the road.
  • Ability to deliver mass participation events- creating, planning and delivering a wide range of events and community campaigns
  • Strategic planning and  project management skills.
  • IT skills, including Word, Excel, Power point and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, multi tasking and administrative skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, external agencies and supporters.
  • Taking ownership, showing initiative and decision making
  • At least 1 year experience in fundraising, special events, advertising, promotions, and/or marketing with a strong customer-service orientation
  • Proven track record of salesmanship, creativity an ability to inspire and compel others
  • Proven ability to successfully execute major events/programs
  • Prior communications or PR experience serving philanthropies, foundations, and/or non-profits an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with an affinity for networking and partnership building
  • Personal qualities of integrity, punctuality, credibility and commitment to the environment
  • You must have the ability to travel at least once a week.
  • Prior participation in or knowledge of pageants an asset
  • Minimum age: 25 years old, and no longer competing in any pageant.
  • Ability to chaperone, be a role model, guide and mould titleholders
Education
  • Majors where students learn effective communication, financial and business skills can help prepare them for the job. Business, public relations, communications and management are possible educational paths
  • Environmental education an asset
  • Fashion or modeling background an asset
Compensation & Perks
  • Stipend level Base salary in first three months  (to be negotiated).

Senior Environment Management & Sustainability Officer

Reporting to the Senior Manager- Sustainability Reporting & Environmental Compliance, job holder will carry out environmental due diligence and risk assessment of network operations and also support sustainability initiatives in the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • In Liaison with the Senior Manager-Sustainability Reporting & Environment Compliance support in development and management of Safaricom Environmental Management Policy;
  • Carry out environmental due diligence for all Safaricom facilities, retail centers and BTS sites;
  • Ensuring Safaricom’s active participation in environmental initiatives through the relevant fora;
  • Support sustainability initiatives and reporting in the company;
  • Ensure staff involvement and participation in the environmental and Sustainability initiatives;
  • Ensuring community engagement in the EIA/EA process;
  • Tracking of Safaricom’s compliance with EMCA 1999 and the subsequent regulations with special focus and reference to the EIA/EA regulations
Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Environmental studies;
  • A postgraduate degree, diploma or certificates in courses in environmental matters within a highly technical industry will be an added advantage;
  • A registered associate lead environmental expert registered with NEMA;
  • Excellent knowledge of EMCA 1999 and the subsequent regulations At least 3 years experience in the environmental compliance sector for the manufacturing, construction or ICT sector or large scale industry; 1 of which should be in process management ;
  • Excellent working knowledge of ICT regulatory environment.
