CAP Carpentry and Technical Training Jobs in Kenya

Carpentry and Joinery/Masonry/Electrical/Plumbing and Welding trainers

CAP Youth Empowerment Institute Kenya, is supported by MasterCard Foundation, was established to provide Basic Employability Skills Training (BEST) for disadvantaged youth in the society with particular focus on women to get equitable, qualitative learning and access to promising labour market oriented opportunities, savings and credit that support their pathways to safe and positive futures.

The key purpose of the organization is to assist 10,000 disadvantaged youth to make informed choices, develop labour-market oriented employability skills and access job placements, savings and enterprise development support.

About the position

The incumbent will be posted in one of the CAP Centers currently operational as a Trainer in two of the mentioned areas.

The right candidate must be able to train two of the listed areas. E.g. Electrical and plumbing.

Duties and Responsibilities
Developing, customizing and Delivering curriculum.
Theoretical and practical instruction in the area of specialization;
preparing and maintaining of schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, teaching and learning materials and trainee records;
carrying out trainee assessment; ensuring proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment;
conducting co-curricular activities; maintain trainee discipline; guidance and counseling of trainees;
Monitoring trainees on field work and industrial attachment and compiling progress reports.
Assist students get internships and placements opportunities.
To source for guest lectures and organize field visits for the trainees.
To help the trainees to find internship and employment opportunities.
Skills Required
Excellent Presentation skills.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Networking skills a must.
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
Proven Carpentry skills.
Willingness to work in tough and competitive environment.
Requirements
One (1) year working experience in either of two areas highlighted above.
Aged 25- 30 years.
Must be mature and with the right attitude.
Must have attained O level certificate.
Minimum Diploma/Certificate level in one of the above areas.
Must have basic computer skills.
Must have passion of working with young people.

icipe Carpenter / Artisan Job in Kenya


icipe wishes to urgently recruit a suitable person to fill the position of Carpenter / Artisan to work in our Building and Site Maintenance Department (Workshop), at icipe Thomas Odhiambo Campus Mbita, South Nyanza.

Duty travel to all institute facilities is required as instructed by supervisor.

Responsibilities

i. Overall Duties
  • Carpentry, plumbing, masonry work, electrical installation services, for the maintenance of icipe buildings and laboratories.
ii. Specific Duties
  • Maintain and repair masonry, carpentry, sanitary/plumbing and electrical fittings in all icipe installations.
  • Fabricate and repair items used by various research departments for field and laboratory work.
  • Paint and refurbish office spaces and common areas.
  • Report to supervisor regarding work done and work in progress, and submit duly filled job cards after completion of jobs.
Job Performance Standards
  • All assignments done correctly as per job cards.
  • Provide a satisfactory level of output.
  • Follow and obey the institute’s high safety standards and regulations.
  • Ensure cost efficient use of workshop materials and equipment.
  • Work in accordance with job schedule, and follow maintenance procedures and guidelines.
  • Work with workshop staff and institute employees to provide an efficient maintenance service.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
  • KCSE and Government Trade Test III in masonry, carpentry, plumbing and/or electrical engineering.
  • 2 years proven experience as plumber, mason and carpenter artisan.
  • Proven experience in building maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of the English language, spoken and written.
  • Must possess a valid driving licence with a minimum 3 years of accident-free driving of class E vehicles.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are an advantage.
